I'm surprised this hasn't been posted yet... http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/topstory/1975373 Houston will host the 2011 NCAA Final Four at Reliant Stadium, the NCAA announced this afternoon. College basketball's signature event will return to the city 40 years after its last visit, the 1971 Final Four at the Astrodome. That event launched the trend toward staging the NCAA championships in stadium settings, and the NCAA will bring the trend full circle by returning to Houston for the first time in four decades Houston was one of six bidders for four men's Final Four slots awarded today. The Alamodome in San Antonio will host the Final Four in 2008, followed by Ford Field in Detroit in 2009, te RCA Dome in Indianapolis in 2010 and Houston's Reliant Stadium in 2011 New Orleans and St. Louis were the other bidders for the four-year cycle of games that were awarded today The NCAA also awarded three women's Final Four events -- 2008 to Tampa, Fla., 2009 to St. Louis and 2010 to San Antonio San Antonio also will host the men's Final Four in 2004. Other sites already set are St. Louis in 2005, Indianapolis in 2006 and Atlanta in 2007.
Maybe by then our beautiful light rail will be able to accomadate the mass influx of passengers between Reliant and the Med Center.
It was just announced a short time ago. The good news is this means we'll get a regional or two before that, hopefully a lot sooner. They do that as sort of a practice run for the big dance.
http://www.ncaasports.com/story/6459755 Here what I was looking for: "Also, each of the four cities selected to host the Men's Final Four also will host a first- and second-round or regional session in the year preceding the Men's Final Four. " So, a regional in 2010.
couldn't be that long overdue...we haven't had a facility for hosting the Final Four in quite some time.
