Major League Soccer has awarded the 2010 MLS All-Star Game to Houston, the Chronicle has learned. League commissioner Don Garber will make an official announcement later today from Sandy, Utah, site of Wednesday's All-Star Game. The date, opponent and venue for the event — either Robertson Stadium, home to the Dynamo, or the much bigger Reliant Stadium — will be announced at a later date. This year's MLS All-Stars, which include Dynamo starters Geoff Cameron, Brad Davis and Stuart Holden, take on English club Everton on Wednesday in Sandy, Utah, under the direction of coach Dominic Kinnear. In recent years, the MLS' midsummer classic has moved away from a traditional East-vs.-West format in favor of pitting a team of MLS All-Stars against an international club. Past opponents have included Chivas Guadalajara (Mexico), Chelsea (England), Celtic (Scotland) and West Ham (England). bernardo.fallas@chron.com
This is great news, but I'm tired of waiting on the stadium announcement. If that happens any time soon, MLS will probably award one for us in 2011 if it opens mid-summer or in 2012. All I can say is that if they hope to sell out Reliant Stadium, they need to have a much bigger draw than Everton FC. Real Madrid? Chelsea? Manchester United?
They NEVER EVER tell you when the game will be. There's NO WAY you could find this out UNTIL IT HAPPENS...
Either way, I'm thinking about getting a ticket. It will be my first live professional sporting event... since the last Dynamo game I went to.
I think glenn Davis just said on his radio show that SUM is in negotiations to bring Manchester united. I think I'll go
Absolutely love the logo. ManU would be freaking fantastic...especially at Reliant. They could actually have 70,000 for the MLS All-Star game.
Wished it was my boys CD AMÉRICA even though I know Man. U. would pull more people into the stadium... I'll be there either way: I have two tickets already.
Great logo. The MLS really has a top-notch graphics team that churns out logos much better than the majority of MLB or NFL people. Look at the logos for all of the past All-Star and MLS Cup games; they all do a great job of looking unique and incorporating something about the clubs/cities they represent.
