Hello all, Tough to figure out what to think after yesterday's performance. A win is a win, but you just can't let teams like Seattle stick around--especially at home. Anyway, here's our final word from the game, including post game reaction, etc.: http://blogs.houstonpress.com/ballz/2008/01/supersonics_vs_rockets_postgam.php As always, thank you so much for reading and feel free to send along any questions, comments or suggestions you may have. And finally, I'd also like to thank everyone who made our live blog such a success. It was a blast and I'm sure we'll do it again down the road. If you missed it and want a full recap, here's the link: http://blogs.houstonpress.com/ballz/2008/01/rocketssupersonics_livebloggin.php Thanks again and have a great day. cheers, JCF
So you're saying these lads are not the second coming, they are pretenders, perhaps not even that? I am waiting and waiting and waiting for legitimate optimism as it relates to the Rockets making a great Spring run. They seem to have the pieces, or would with a Point who could approximate Paul/Deron etc...
Xiki, I think almost every team in the league would be close to having the right pieces if they were accompanied by a first class PG like Paul, Williams, Nash, Davis etc. In today's NBA, those guys are just that important. The real bummer is that if the pieces had fallen the Rockets way in the '06 draft, they would have taken the guy they really coveted: Brandon Roy. And in one fell swoop, he would have cured much of what ails this Rockets team, providing another legit scoring option, very good PG play, and--perhaps most importantly of all--a true leader of men. But, alas, every team in the NBA will have their near misses. Rockets fans just have to hope their big break is coming sooner rather than later. JCF
Past Brandon Roy, the Rockets had Rudy Gay and traded him without equal compensation. He would be the answer to many of the problems we have today as well. If Brandon Roy was 1A, then Rudy Gay would have been 1B. But, the Rockets management made another horrible choice when it comes to drafting and talent scouting.
Not to be a total Rockets apologist here, but Rudy Gay was NEVER someone they were considering. It's worth noting, too, that this wasn't just a Rockets thing; Gay was sliding down many teams' draft boards. Also, if we're gonna diss the club for bypassing Gay, we should also praise them for seemingly unearthing gems like Brooks and Landry in the draft's nether regions. JCF
The difference is Rudy Gay isn't a point guard. Brandon Roy is. That's why we wanted Roy. We wanted to draft someone to be a point guard, not to be a swingman SG,SF.. we have one of those (well we have half of one of those at the moment).
True, true. And true on Roy. Now, would Sefalosa have been the answer??? After all, he was apparently '1B'. I am happy with Shane and believe we are still at least one year better off with SM than Gay. Gay has talent, Battier is a man. But, alas, it's all the near misses which haunt my Rockets' days, and nites. I want a 'hit'. A big hit.
Thank you for the negativity. I really mean that. It is refreshing to see someone not clouded by their own homer views. When something is negative, be negative. When something is positive, be positive.
That was their mistake. Had the #8 pick and ended up with Shane Battier. No offensive creator and no future stud to bring along with Yao.
rudy gay sucks...puts up numbers for a terrible team. roy is a 2g who has some point skills. he has a bad knee that showed up last year and will show up again soon. but he is a star...rudy gay is charles smith
I agree there is no evidence what so ever Gay would have been successful on our team. Look at the current Grizzlies team and you can tell why Gay is so successful. He takes quite alot of shot attempts. Also he can't defend. He was never the answer. He plays exactly the same role T-mac plays but with less passing. Roy would have been a steal. but we missed out, oh well
Based on what? Landry had a "bad knee" himself and seems to have recovered nicely. I'm not sure how Gay will turn out in the long run, but I wouldn't dismiss him like that. We just don't know. I was more upset that we tossed in Swift on the deal for Battier and didn't get a pick than that we picked up Battier. I'm happy with Battier. True, if it would help the team I'd be for moving him, but there's no reason to slam the two rookies like that, IMO. Hell, Roy is a stud.
