Anyone remember the Houston Post? I was a youngin when it got canned...what was it like? Was it a good paper or a POS? Thank you, and goodnight.
I preferred it as well over Chronicle. I was young so I don't remember why. I think it was the sports section of the Post had more stats posted or something of that nature.
I liked it. It wasn't as "slick" as the Chronicle and it had a good sports section. I can remember going to lunch and having both sports sections to read and it would be enough to keep me entertained until it was time to go back. Somewhere around this place I've got the Post and Chronicle from the day after the Rockets won their 1st championship (USA Today also). Gonna have to pull those out someday.
The Post was fine. My parents subscribed to the Post, so I grew up reading it. Honestly, there was very little distinction between the Post and Chronicle, aside from the different journalists' opinions. I worked for the Chronicle in the summer of 94 as an intern (got to walk Bob Horry up to the stage at Jones Plaza for a pre-Finals pep rally...wrote press release on Chronicle's Believe It! campaign....dated Playmates and smoked fine cigars...ok I lied about the last part). When that summer ended, I got back to school and the Post shut down within about a month. I'm pretty sure my efforts that summer as a captain of industry sunk the Post.
The Post used to sponsor the Softball Tournament Team that I played on. I preferred the Post over the Chronicle too.
Loved the Post, and the Chronicle.... When the Post folded, the Chronicle got much weaker too, lack of competition made them lazy. DD
