I know Houston had the NBA All Star Game I think in '87 but does anyone (Jeff?) know if Houston is in the running for an upcoming future NBA All Star Game? They will have their new arena next year so they will be a PRIME place to host a game within the next few years. Plus the fact they have Yao Ming that makes it even more of a desireable location.

Does anyone know if Houston has applied to have it? I know the game is in LA next year but does anyone know if it has been selected after that?

hmm... let's see.. the superbowl is here in '04.. the MLB allstar game in '05.. I wouldn't be surprised if we got the NBA allstar game in '06... '05 if we're lucky, but I doubt it.

MLB's all star game is hosted here in '04.

I don't see the all star game coming to Houston til like 2009, 2010 or sometime afterwards.

It will be a lot sooner than that. Awhile back, The Houston Chronicle posted a column on how the Rockets were trying to land the All-Star Game at the new arena. However, this was before the new arena was a sealed deal (I believe). In the article, it stated that George Postolos was practically kissing David Stern's ass to lure the ASG to Houston. In fact, it got so bad that Stern said, "leave me alone, dont bug me untill you guys have a new arena up and running!" The Rockets were apparently pressing the ASG issue because Houston had just landed the rights to host Super Bowl XXXVIII and they figured they needed to land the ASG to keep in the local sports team popularity race.......something like that. I tried to retrieve the article to post it, but I am not a subscriber to the Chronicle so they wouldnt let me search through the archives. Anywayz, now that we have a new arena and the MLB ASG has been added to the list of events that were hosting, I expect to see the Rockets try even harder to land the ASG in Houston. It is widley believed that Denver will eventually be awarded the ASG in 2005, so I will assume that 2006 will be our turn.

Thanks for the info. I don't live in Houston and was unaware about the MLB all star game coming to Houston. Very cool.

I did read an article today saying that Denver is really hot after the 2005 game as pointed out above.

Perhaps 2006 will be the year. By then the Rockets should be one of the better teams in the league and very popular. Would be cool!

This is a kind of big story in Denver. Reportedly, we're one of the leading candidates to get the 2005 All-Star game. New Orleans is the favorite to get the 2006. However, Memphis and you guys were mentioned as possibilites as well.

How come Chicago hasn't hosted in the United Center? They have new arenas, yet they haven't hosted yet.

because the Bulls are horrible... but that still doesn't explain how the hell Denver got the all-star game.

Hey man...I would love to have it in Houston.

But the thing that would be TERRIBLE would be...you know...

TRAFFIC!!!!!!! Oh lord...that will be bad.

I just hope they have one in Houston before I die.

AND YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE. Houston had the most viewers watching the All Star Game! Yay!

    Isn't that great?

MLB All Star Game...AND SUPER BOWL!!! All in the same year!!!

We could have hosted the Olympics...

LOL! Good one. I remember how they were trying to move the homeless to 5th Ward to promote the safety of Bayou's Place or whatever they call it down there.
