anybody hear kenny and chuck's mention of this during the charity game broadcast tonight? kenny says they should move em here. would be strange.
we barely have enough fans to go to rockets games...why in the world would the hornets would want to come? i would think they would go to LV or stlouis...
Up here, hopes are really high that they'll be coming to Oklahoma City. I don't know how true it is, but a lot of officials are making it sound as if it's really going to happen. I suppose space wouldn't be a problem, since OK has two cities larger than NO land wise, both with metro populations of over a mil. OKC has a new arena perfect for basketball and Tulsa is currently building one. Also, the way people are talking, I don't think attendance will be much of an issue. They'll definitely have more people at the games than they did in NO. All in all, I think this could actually work.
Here's all I could find. Not enough to get hopes up the way the people up here are, IMO. (It would keep them geographically in the right division though) http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=ap-hornets-oklahomacity&prov=ap&type=lgns NBA officials visit Oklahoma City seeking new home for Hornets By JEFF LATZKE, AP Sports Writer September 9, 2005 OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- NBA representatives toured the Ford Center and met with local officials Friday about the possibility of temporarily moving the displaced New Orleans Hornets to the city. Mayor Mick Cornett said five NBA officials walked around the facility and discussed possible terms of a lease should the team decide to play its 41-game home schedule at the arena, which seats 19,675 for basketball. ``The NBA is impressed with what we have to offer,'' Cornett said. Cornett said he believed the success of major league baseball exhibition games, plus the turnout at major concerts, provided evidence that Oklahoma City could support an NBA franchise. He said sales of tickets for college games at Oklahoma and Oklahoma State for similar prices also suggest the team would be marketable in Oklahoma City. ``That old image that we had of Oklahoma City as being a market that was only able to support minor-league events is outdated,'' Cornett said. The mayor said the main considerations for the NBA would be facilities for games, practice and office work. The Hornets are not expected to be able to open the season in New Orleans, which was devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Cornett said a decision was possible in the next two weeks, and a league official said nothing was imminent. Nashville and Baton Rouge, La., Kansas City, Louisville, San Diego and Las Vegas have been mentioned as other possible relocation sites. ``We're continuing to work with the Hornets to analyze contingency plans, but no decisions have been made,'' NBA spokesman Tim Frank said.
I agree. I think OKC would be great for the Hornets. I for one would be getting season tickets. I would have to root against them twice a year though.
The Oklahoma/Missouri area really should get an NBA franchise...they've got several cities that would probably be supportive (Kansas City, St. Louis, Oklahoma City).
i hope they find a way to stay in new orleans. its terrible what has happened down there, and having there pro sport franchises permanetly moved is like pouring salt on the wound
I hope they aren't considering Houston and I pity whatever city ends up with them. I mean, it's nice to have an NBA team and all, but Shinn's Hornets are the worst one you could get. Why give that guy a sweet stadium deal so he can stay in town and trade away all the talent his team comes across and sexually harass your wife? Maybe, he'll move to some other town and the NBA will give New Orleans an expansion team with a legitimate owner. That'd be nice. Or, maybe Shinn will burn all his bridges and can't find a city that'll deal with him, so he'll be forced to sell to someone who won't be a complete screw-up.
What's the opint in being rich enough to own a major league spots franchise if you can't sexually harrass some females?
yeah man, if they came to OKC i would have season tickets in no time. Im not real sure how attendance would be, given the attitude of most oklahomans towards the NBA, but i would be there for sure.
They need to move 'em to LSU this season at least, people would go ape **** and it would still help the state/local/etc
