FREE PRESS SUMMER FEST AUGUST 8TH AND 9TH AT ELEANOR TINSLEY PARK 12PM TO 10PM Free Press Houston is proud to announce the 2009 Free Press Summer Fest. This music and arts festival will be held August 8th and 9th at Buffalo Bayou's Eleanor Tinsley Park and will feature more than 40+ national and local musical performers, visual arts, and games. Confirmed to headline are BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE, OF MONTREAL, EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY, THE SWORD, WHAT MADE MILWAUKEE FAMOUS, OCTOPUS PROJECT. The park will host 2 stages, dozens of local artist booths, a craft beer garden, games, and several 'cooling elements' such as a misting tent to help attendees stage cool in the hot sun. Participants are encouraged to wear bathing suits and loose fitting clothing. Free water will be available on site. Additionally, a portion of proceeds will go to Project Row Houses which is a community non-profit that is responsible for restoration restoration, art, and social activism in Houston's Third Ward since 1991. Holy s***! An actual GOOD MUSIC festival in Houston? Andi it's only $7 a day? And I'm in town that weekend? Sweet.
EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY!! YES!! <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/w0o8JCxjjpM&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/w0o8JCxjjpM&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> plus Eleanor Tinsley is such an awesome place for a show like this. I remember all those (Enron)Earth Day Festivals down there........ thanks for sharing this. I will be there.
I never realized how horrible and just plain stupid band names were these days until I just read this thread...
Aww... poor you. In all seriousness, this is nothing. I've heard way worse names, such as: Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness... and others.
Saw them at Mary Janes a few years back. They put on a great live show. I'm not too big on the records, though.
Holy Crap!! This is going to be awesome. Broken Social Scene, Explosions in the Sky!!!, Voxtrot, Octopus Project, Of Montreal. I've wanted to see EITS ever since I was a little child. Is this a new festival?
holy eff, when did los skarnales get back together, disagree with seeing them once in the past ten years, over the past ten years they added an upright bass and an accordian, i have no idea what they are doing now as the last i knew they had broken up, they have some good music for sure though
Jesus, how old are you? They haven't been around too long. What, 9 years or so? I could never get into their CDs, but they put on a hell of a live show. I'll give them that.
Looks like this is the same group that put on the Westheimer Block Party the last couple of years. Pretty much every band in town seemed to play those events. These folks appear seriously committed to making live music happen in Houston. I'm not a big indie fan but it's something to do; I've never seen live music in Eleanor Tinsley.
Missing Inner Lights but should be epic none the less. How friggin' hot do y'all think it will be in August??
Yeah it's going to be hot as hell but I'm so glad to finally see Houston get a show with some solid indie bands. Hopefully this thing does well and this becomes an annual festival. I've just discovered Voxtrot in the last few weeks so really pumped about them as well.
