EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Rockets guard Tracy McGrady, who said on Wednesday that he wanted to increase his playing time, will instead not play at all tonight against the New Jersey Nets or Sunday in Cleveland.

Rockets general manager Daryl Morey said the team would wait until it returned to Houston after the weekend back-to-back to consider any changes to the rotation.

“I’m a player, man,” McGrady said. “I don’t make these decisions. I just abide by whatever they bring to me. That’s the plan. I’m not going to argue and fight with them – just run with it. I felt it was time (to increase the routine of playing seven to eight first-half minutes).

“I’m not going to cause any confusion or confrontations. As a player, that’s what I felt. They obviously feel different. That’s what I have to roll with.”

McGrady said that neither he nor his representatives have asked for his playing time to increase, beyond his answers to questions after the game in Orlando on Wednesday. Morey said the decision to hold McGrady out of the next two games was temporary, based in part on McGrady’s dissatisfaction with the previous routine.

“Where we go next deserves a lot of discussions and talking to Tracy, and figuring out what the best next step is,” Morey said. “Tracy didn’t feel like this is working in terms of working him back in. We want to develop the best next step. We’ll figure out what's next when we get back to Houston.”

Morey said that McGrady and his representatives have not requested a trade. McGrady has said often and as recently as Wednesday that he hopes to sign with the Rockets as a free agent next summer.

“They love Houston,” Morey said. “There’s been no talk of trade.”

The benefit that can come from McGrady playing outweighs the harm that it can bring, in my opinion.

Whatever the reason is for McGrady not playing does not seem legit and this guy needs to be on the court (in my opinion)

Rockets are making themselves look bad by sitting McGrady just because he asked for more playing time. You simply just say, no you are not getting more minutes... Rockets are doing wrong but McGrady deserves it after what he did last year.

This is a very bad sign and probably portends T-mac's exit out of Houston.

Obviously none of us know the real story, but from one outsiders perspective, the Rockets have made themselves look pretty bad as far as player management goes. It's kinda embarassing

I don't see why Morey would do this unless a trade or buyout is coming.

It could be their way of managing a prima donna but it doesn't look good.

I think I am going to go to my bank and tell them I am going to stop paying back my student loans so I can figure out the best way to get them thier money.

Why do they loo bad? They are bringing McGrady at the pace they think is right for the MAJOR injury he had.

bad sign to our hopes of winning a championship next year.

If you think without a star perimeter player who can both get to the rim, shoot the ball, and has court vision to pass we are going to win a ring - i hate to tell you that the NBA game is not the college game.

We've built a great college team, and it will do well in the regular season. But this team can't get past the 2nd round of the playoffs without a guy who can demand double teams on the perimeter and know what to do with it.

There's only a handful of players that can do that in the league. Our odds are better with T-mac than without.

Apparently DM thinks his moneyball approach to basketball will work but I am not so sure.

Morey and Adelman are only doing what T-Mac did to us last year, make our own terms and tell him which games he can and can't play. I see this as a little payback.

Its obvious that this team and city isn't going to let a "primadonna" run the team.

a trade or something has to be coming. he's been playing 8 minutes a game, and adelman said he would do this for 6 games. now it's been for 6 games and the team made the decision to sit him out? this is not how you bring a guy back from injury. even if you disagree with what mcgrady said (which he said he would still be cool with playing 8 minutes a game for the next 2-4 games), you don't sit him.

so obviously, these past 6 games have been a SHOWCASE, and now they are possibly ironing out a trade. hopefully it does happen so both sides can move on.
