That's some pretty stiff competition. Arlington has to be the heavy favorite. I personally would put Houston second over New Orleans on quality of facilities alone, but these committees seem to love the debauchery associated with the Big Easy.
Yeah, I think Arlington would be the favorite. But after them, Houston would have to be the best bet. So if you want this in Houston (and I'm not sure if I do), just hope our offer is better than Arlington's.
I would think NO is the favorite, due to people actually wanting to visit New Orleans as a fun place to go. Arlington has a nice stadium and may be able to bring in more $$ with additional seats, but who the hell would want to visit DFW? Their super bowl was a disaster there due to it being spread all over the place as the weather was very cold. Houston might have a bit of an advantage by being somewhat more neutral geographically vs. the others. ATL = heavy SEC country, as is NO. Arlington and SA are more Big XII country... probably a non-factor though
They should play it deep in the heart of Mexico - get rid of all the LSU and OU fans for a weekend, like in the Dark Knight when Dent ridded the streets of criminals. Imagine what we could do with safe streets for 2 days.
Maybe I don't quite grasp the format of the Champions Bowl, but, while this isn't a great reasoning, I don't know if I like the idea of New Orleans having two major bowls. Of those listed, only Houston and San Antonio are without "big" bowls (I'd say Chick-fil-A and Cotton are just below BCS-level). But hey, go wherever the money/entertainment is. As long as it means better football, I don't care where they play the games.
What would their other Major Bowl be? The Sugar Bowl was only a big bowl because the SEC champ would play there which isn't the case anymore. They are just hoping for playoff games. The Champions bowl basicly combines the Sugar Bowl with the Fiesta bowl. Winner of the SEC plays winner of the Big 12 unless one of those teams is in the playoffs (similar to when one of those winners was in the BCS title game in the BCS format). It ensures that the big 12 champ or runner up never has to play a boise st or some other program that they view as lesser. Same deal with the SEC. They don't want to have to play small teams and small conferences. It's really a **** you to everyone who isn't in one of the 4 big conferences.
They need to blow up the Dome and replace it with something that would make Houston and Reliant stadium a more attractive option. If they wanted to convert the Dome into something useful that would be OK too. I really nice Hotel and event center with entertainment venues right next to Reliant would really help.
