Okay, it looks like there is a good deal of interest. I think we should have the pickup game on April 13th, and Crispee will work on a picnic/family day which will also include some b-ball which may be on May 25th. (Crispee, let me know what you think about this since I don't want to be putting words into your mouth) So what we need to figure out for April 13th is if we want to play at the frisbee golf place that crispee mentioned, or one of the indoor places other people have mentioned. Crispee, is the court covered at the place you suggested? If it is, I think that would be a good place since we could do other stuff afterwards there, and it'd be a great way to scout the place before we hold a bigger event there.

Just my thoughts, what does everyone else think about the date(s) and location?

    April 13th sounds great.

UNLESS!!!! Unless you want to do Sunday April 14th and everyone go to the last game together at 7:30pm. We'd play basketball, take showers (ooh, that sounds weird doesn't it), meet back up at Kenneally's for pizza (5 minutes from the Summit) and go to the game.

my feelings are to just keep the first pick-up game simple and make it indoors and just about basketball. A family pickup game day picnic at the park idea requires much more thought and organization.

Let's just play ball and watch the game.

As for indoor facilities, there is a really cheap place on W.Gray that is mahvelous. I think Kam is talking about the same place. I have buddies begging me to start playing with them on Tuesdays. They are renting a full court for $5, although that might be weekday prices only. Anyhow, it is a fairly new Rec Center...large. Kind of hidden. You might have lived in Montrose all your live and not really realize it is there. It is on the South side of W. Gray across from the Cafe Express that is located in the shopping center where the defunct River Oaks Movie complex is, at W. Gray and Waugh.

I'm also fairly certain everyone could play at Autry Court (Rice University) for $3 a piece as long as some Rice Alumns are with the group. I'll call around.

    So, the only question remains:

    Sat the 13th or
Sun the 14th to coincide with the last game of the year at 7:30pm!

Sunday actually works better for me. I have a golf tourney on Sat morning so I'll probably a little tired, but as long as it's around 3 or later on Sat. I am good to go.

Bring a friend then. You could school us. Seriously though, the only problem I have with HSers in pickups is sometimes they feel the need to gain respect too quickly and wanna fight. As brash as I am on this board, I am more stoic in sports...duncan like. They lame attempts at talking **** that lead to fights make me just take my ball and go to another park. Arguing foul calls is lame. Especially in "Family Reunion Ball" as Rudy would call it. Just play ball.

The fouler has to call it, and there are no charging fouls. Just take the hit...what? you want a free throw...next time swipe the ball away and laugh at him if he cries foul.

as for age: I'm probably the eldest. I think most are under 30. I could easily go down with injury if you all make me have a midlife moment of ecstasy. That would be no good. Broken glasses, Achilles tear, hamstring pull . . . a Barkley double quad pointer fascia....I'd get in a lot of trouble for that. hmmmm, maybe I should just be the designated bomber-white boy recruited from the corn fields of Illinois.

If you all were interested in an indoor place, we could play for free at my apt complex - it's just a halfcourt, but there is also a nice pool behind the place and a couple gas grills if we wanted to do a barbecue thing. It's also just down the road from the Summit at 59 and 610.

The problem is we'd have to book it, so I'd need to know as soon as possible. If we decided 2 weeks in advance, it would probably be fine though.

I say Saturday if Sunday is no good for red. Let's cater to the outta towner's schedules, imo.

Although it is half court, I really like this idea. Cooling out and hangin with you all afterwards at a pool and bbq sounds great. That's the problem with the Rec Center I mentioned. That place is fantastic, but I has a sterile feel to it. It like, let's meet, play ball for 2 hrs, shake hands and part. You know we aren't going to do that. Some of us are going to want to get a bite to eat and maybe a beer, and talk about the big game.

Having a that place right there at the court is a cool idea.

Couple of quick questions: are there any showers, or do we just jump into the pool afterwards. and, Does it have any other baskets for shooting around, so maybe we play 4 on 4 halfcourt and theirs an odd person out waiting. or maybe they could go flip the burgers and refill the water bucket, or something.

Count me in. I'm looking forward to this. Like Sland Balla, I'm only 17, but don't hafta worry about me snapping, i ain't got nothin to prove.

BTW I don't think we should do halfcourt, unless there are 6 or less people. Four on four half court is too crowded, and people tend to foul and **** more in half court anyway.

Pool sounds great. We need to get buffalo wings toooooo

The problem with 5 on 5 is you need at least 12 people or the game gets crappy, quickly from no defense.

count on us not having 12 for this first cc.net pickup game.

Full court is pretty cool, but halfcourt on a REAL court is perfectly wide enough to practice our Rudy spacing. Count on CriscoKidd pulling out the power forwards and doing his Mo Taylor thing.

Plus, the pool and bbq pit will make it funner for those who just want to watch, like RocketsPimp!!!!!!!!!! lol

I'd like to spend the last game of the year with my friends in CC.net chat... but if a get together is planned... I could do that too! I'll let the "actual" b-ballers decide...

what? are you guys going to be chatting at noon till 10pm? hehe. Regardless, I think it is Saturday because Red is flying out on Sunday.

    Gutter Snipe:

Give us the dimensions of the court. We need to know whether it is smallish and whether the basket sucks (ie, does not protrude from the wall, has taken a beating from dunk fests, etc)

Yeah, why don't we do this Saturday starting around 3 or so, then eat whenever we can't move anymore.

I like the halfcourt plan if we know that not a lot of people will show up. 4 on 4 isn't really that crowded if you know how to space out for isos :)

    rH,

What kind of attitude is this? You think Moochie is the star he is today thinking like this?

Besides, you couldn't be any worse than me.

If I wasn't in a city with real streetball like DC, I'd be there laughing my *ss off at you guys trying to execute the Rocket's offense. Half of you will be running post up plays and the other half iso's.
