Houston / Austin: Our band plays this weekend at the Continental Clubs

    Houston / Austin: Banana Blender plays this weekend at the Continental Clubs

    Hey guys, quick plug for Banana Blender Surprise . We play this weekend at the Continental Club in Austin (Friday 7/25) and Houston (Saturday 7/26). We're basically a roots-rock band that played full time in the mid-1990s, and still play every so often since then.

    The only band members who still play locally on a regular basis are David Beebe, our singer, who fronts the El Orbits in his spare time (full time), and Allen Hill, who plays bass with us but lead vocals with the Allen Oldies Band and El Toros. My brother Conrad lives in NY and plays session and touring gigs, Jason Barker (lead guitar) lives in Iowa and I live in San Francisco, where I run the very cumbersome yet creatively fulfilling Chucky Brown Fan Club for 100 hours per week. It's more email than you think, trust me.

    I put our first album online, download away if you want a sample or the whole album. Anyone who has seen the band is encouraged to give any sort of feedback here. We have received both sorts, so I won't peronally get too excited either way, but you know, I am all about feedback. I am in Tim McDougall phase of my life, it's all about the feedback.

    (thats a positive review, btw....used to go see this band at the Fabulous Satellite Lounge all the time...great fun)

    The Continental Club in Houston has RC in a machine cheaper than at the bar -- really cold too.

    I thought they played there all the time -- I'll tell him. If you email him I am sure it will be logged into his mental calculator as "a hundred fans in Dallas clamoring for the El Orbits." They just played out here in SF, and it was terrific -- he has the drums/vocals/bingo/bandleader thing so down, it's unbelievable.

    The real Batman Jones will be there, in all his raging glory. One of the for sure last chances to buy him a beer while he's still in H-Town. I hear tell of other cc.net types showing up as well. Who else is gonna go see CBFC rock Houston? And who else is buying my beer?

    The BBS poster kissofdeath was saying one time that the guy(s) who ran the Continental Club in Austin was a big Rockets' fan. Not sure it's the same guy(s) now or not. He said they would never play any music or let any bands play until a Rocket game was over if the Rockets were playing that night, iirc.

    I could be talking out my ass right now but I *think* he said Rudy T was in there one time.

    Rocketman95 I know was there. He can verify my story or tell you I'm full of it. But I know kissofdeath was a cool dude and he did say he used to watch Rocket games at this club.
