Now imagine if abortion were banned and all of this was all underground and impossible to regulate.

You're just making more arguments as to why we should have legal abortion under strict regulations designed to prevent this type of stuff

this is expected when the US legalized abortions in the first place. The slippery slope of rationalization results in incidents like this. Tragic.

Abortion is never pretty. I still support it, though.

I do support abortion, but not beyond 24 weeks. 24 weeks is the time when the unborn gains consciousness and is a huge difference to me.

    So no.

24 weeks is your magic number? Science and medicine have proven the ability to support babies at fewer and fewer weeks over time...

History will not look back kindly on the abortion era.

I didn't see any evidence certifying that the abortions were beyond the legal time limit, other than alleging that eyes were opened, assuming it was always an expression of pain, and the non-cited claim that that only be felt after the time thresh-hold.

Yep, that's my magic number. Scientific research has discovered the signs of consciousness around 24 weeks, it is so far the most reliable number therefore I will take it.

What does consciousness have to do with life? If I kill a person in a coma, is that not considered murder?

Of course it does, because without consciousness you can not consider any sort of active organs "alive". Do you consider your sperms "alive!? Do you consider a kidney waiting to be transplanted a life?

Consciousness is the difference maker when it comes to judge whether one's being alive or not. Yes, it is considered murder to kill someone in Coma because they had consciousness before and there's a chance to REGAIN consciousness at any stage --- but you know what they do when the doctor sees no chance of patience recovering from coma after a certain period? ( in nz it's normally 2 weeks)

They unplug the oxygen pump and declare death (upon relatives permission).

If you kill it when it has consciousness you are a soulless murdering monster deserving of life in prison like Kermit Gosnell, but if you kill it 30 minutes before you are just a doctor doing your job. Cmon man, this ethical code doesn't make sense to you? /sarcasm

I've heard others try to rationalize their decision to support aborting babies by saying that they only support abortions before the baby is able to "survive on its own" if it were outside the womb.

There are a number of flimsy excuses that people use to support abortion. All of them are flawed and many of their "magic numbers" (e.g., I don't support abortions after 24 weeks) actually change as science and medicine advance. The worst (and most hypocritical) is people saying "oh it's fair to give the woman a choice". If that's fair, then why deny the baby the same choice?

as mentioned, history will look back shamefully upon the abortion era...
