There's a supporters group forming for Houston 1836 and we'll be meeting February 10th at 8 PM at the Richmond Arms if anybody is interested. After the meeting we'll stay and watch USA vs. Japan at 10. The basic idea of the group is to have tailgating before each game and be the biggest vocal group during the game with chanting, drumming, yelling, and anything else we can do to make the atmosphere better for the game. We also plan to find a place to meet and watch the away games at. Richmond Arms
OK..i'm not THAT excited about it. but i think it's awesome that you and your friends are. that will help make the atmosphere at games soooo much better. talk to Khalil about Live Sports Cafe for watching away games.
Not to take anything away from Live because I love the place, but Richmond Arms seems like the perfect place to watch soccer. We've been going there for lunch the past three Fridays and they have all the schedules up and what not. DrLudicrous, I'm a soccer newbie. I might check that out. You up there a lot?
yeah, but did you know the train runs right outside Live?? (even found a picture of it pulling in at Preston!!!!)
Richmond Arms really has a good atmosphere for soccer but will probably be too small, at our first meeting it was kind of cramped. I mentioned Live to some of the people and they liked the place but were worried about being pushed aside for other sports and what the crowd/atmosphere is like on Saturday nights when most of the games are played. If I'm wrong please correct me because other than that it seems like a great place. I'm not up there too much, I've only seen a couple of games there but may start going more often. If you don't want to go to the meeting you can still drop by for the game afterwards, it should be a good time.
Cool. Since I've started going up there more, I've really wanted to go up there and catch some games. A good friend of mine goes up there a lot, so I thought maybe you knew him or something. Mmm, Paddy Quinn Steak Sandwich.
Sup guys...im definintly excited about the upcoming season considering im a soccer fan myself. I heard about this meeting from a regular of mine that always comes in and watching premiership soccer games at Live during the day and he also said he wanted to mention Live as a place to watch the game because of the size and central location. I am more than happy to host them. Does anyone have a link to the schedule so i can see what days the games fall on? That way i can tell you a lot easier if you have to compete with anything. As of right now the only night we are really a club is Saturday Nights after 10pm. So any other night we are basically a sports bar, we do have nights with Live Bands now so that's the only thing. We can always use the back room where we just added 4 new LCD's and a projection as a room to have some type of viewing party for each away game for your group. That way i can isolate you guys in a room to enjoy the games as well as give you guys some kind of special that we can all agree on. Im going to look into finding the schedule and work on getting all the details i can that way we can work something out. Im always here to help any way i can. EDIT : Looks like based on last years MLS schedule most games are on Saturday. I didn't follow it much but i noticed some games on TV. Anyone know the time ranges most games start? From what i remember they were mostly during the day. Either way i don't think any game is going to start that late and run anywhere into the club portion of Saturday Night.
Thanks for the reply. The league still hasn't released the schedule for the upcoming season yet. Judging from previous years most games will be Saturday afternoon or night with some games on Wednesday and Sunday. If we're playing a west coast team the game possibly may not start until 9 or 10. I guess it'll be easier to tell once the schedule is out. The couple of guys that I talked to about it said they'd been during lunch to see games and really liked the place and it is a good location for everybody.
Man I miss having places like that to go to. There are 2 decent places in Austin to catch a game, but 1 is too expensive (Fado) and the other is quite dank (Ale House). I played on a team sponsored by Carlsberg and Richmond Arms was where they hosted us after our games on Sat nights. I will look to join you guys when I get into town to see a game. EDIT: Has there been any mention of Fox Sports picking up the games? I'm not sure if any of them will be televised here in Austin (rarely do they ever show a FC Dallas game). Of course, they run up against the Astros for their entire season.
They've talked with FSN about showing some games and having other games shown by local channels. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/3621569.html
Well im definently open to working something out, but of course would want everyone to enjoy themselves. If they feel a location is better atmosphere for games etc, then im all for it. Trust me i know how watching soccer games are. Either way, if there is any way i can help i will.
I'll be sure to bring Live up again, like I said it's a great location and there's plenty of room/tv's and having an owner that's willing to work with the group is a huge plus. Once the schedule is out we should know more about possible conflicts.
How big is the back room at Live as opposed to the room at Richmond Arms? How many can fit comfortably in either place?
The back room is usually reserve for private parties, it has it's own bar and enough tv's for more than just one game of course. Standing room you can easily fit 50 people in the, if you want seating i would drop it down in the 30's but of course that's with tables and stuff aroud as well. We have had more than 30 people seated as well, it just depends on the layout. I will take some pictures of the back room so you guys can see for yourself.
I go to the Richmond Arms fairly regulary, even watched the Rose Bowl there. For the big games, the place is not usually packed to the gills but seating can be a little scarce. I bet if you talked to the management about watching the games on Saturdays, they'd be open to working out special arrangements. Plus they serve Scotch Eggs. Perhaps the pinnacle of fried food.
hmm, i'll be holding the opposite this saturday at my house. everyone that despises the soccer team will meet. that is all.
my wife designed the old hotshots logo and we had season tickets back at the summit. I've never been to an outdoor soccer match so I don't know if I'd like it as much. Guess I'll check them out at least once though. Go 1836!
