I guess it'll just be a 28 team first round for 5 years then? Wow what a hard ruling. Certainly helps us in the playoff chase.

Minnesota loses its own first-round draft picks in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 -- that is huge. Not to mention Joe Smith's contract was voided and they were fined $3.5 million ... WOW!

Talk about a killer. Minnesota screwed themselves big time and the agents are laughing all the way to the bank.

Joe's going to stay in Minnesota anyway, so the contract being voided doesn't affect anything

True, but it will bump some of the picks up one. We are due 4 or 5 and owed 2. Plus Houston's regular picks.

Never mind, The Cat edited his message.

I sure don't think he'll stay. His bird rights with Minnesota were taken away as well from what I understand, so I doubt he resigns. Someone like Miami will probably get him IMO. (they'll have a 3.9 mil Medical Exception)

Seems like an overly harsh penalty for the T-Wolves when you consider all the adversity they've gone through the past few years....putting up w/ Rider and Laettner, departure of Marbury and Gugliotta, death of Sealy. Sure this is good news for us, but you'd think that b*stard Stern could have shown a little more restraint. In typical fashion he's once again showcasing his crackdown tactics to ensure the NBA masses do not disrespect his politboro rules going forward. Hopefully within 5 years Glen Taylor will be able to convince the other owners to finally dump Stern.

    Wow, the wolves got raped.

    Ouch that hurts!!

Come on, the way to build teams really is through the draft and those first round picks. I feel bad for that team. It's like winning a game after you take MJ, Hakeem, Barkley, Payton, etc away from the other team. It's not the way to hope for.

If Stern passed this ruling it's going to hurt none other more than the league. Come on the Wolves have sucked for ever except the past 2 years. After the first 5 years in the league the Wolves lost that magic and were drawing pittiful attendances. Then low and behold they get good. Now they get absolutly violated by Stern.

Sterns ruling is nothing more than a violation of the Wolves. And come on, all teams cheat the system. So, the wolves are going to take it up hard for the rest of the league.

A punishment was warranted, but not this!

Kevin Garnett needs to figure out what a crappy team he is going to have for the next five years. He needs to demand a trade to Houston damnit!

That is a pretty harsh penalty though. I just hope the Rockets dont have a deal like that with Shandon [IMG] [IMG]

Let me tell ya gimp, Stern is such a horrible commissioner. He only inherited a league that was in chaos and made it into the premier sports league it is today. The guy is such an ass for actually keeping player salaries under control. He is so horrible for actually instituting a hard line drug policy in the league and promoting a positive marketable image. Stern is only the reason the league is so successful, and the money machine it is today. The owners and players have had such a horrible time counting the millions they pull in with Stern as commish. Ya I definitely think they should all get together and try to get rid of him. Maybe you can be as short sighted in this area as you are with Jason Collier.

Hows does this affect us regarding Shandon Anderson?

I mean to say, it's pretty odvious that Shandon MUST have been given some sort of gurantee when he signed here for about $15 MILLION less that he was offered in Utah.

Every team does it...some are just more 'proffesional' at it...so you have to feel sorry for the T Wolves.

Who have the Rockets got from the draft in the last 5 years that is a major building block for this team?

Tell me about Portland? Did they get most of their players through the draft?

Orlando certainly rebuilt this year without using the draft - or is Mike Miller their go to guy?

Miami doesn't seem to need to use the draft to improve themselves!

But hey, the Clippers always seem to have a high draft pick, they seem to be rebuilding well through the draft!

A team doesn't rebuild from the draft. Sure it CAN be used as an avenue to rebuild, but astute management is the BEST way to rebuild, the T-Wolves seem to have some pretty savvy management, and while this will definitely hurt them, they'll probably be able to figure themselves out and be able to continue to rebuild!

The ruling was harsh but . . .a point had to
    be made.

Stern had to make sure that the league was
shown to be above reproach. Like MJ's
    2 yr supsension . .er. . .retirement
    for gambling [GRIN].

He cannot let it appear that the NBA will
be the MLB . .were winning can be bought.

The new team that the NBA will put in Austin. [IMG]

Seriously, the draft picks just vanish and the teams that fall below the Wolves in draft order move up a step.
