I just heard on 610 that Van Gundy is looking at houses in 2 specific areas and also checking out the schools. I don't think I would be looking at specific areas to live or finding out about the schools unless I knew I was going there. He didn't go house looking in washington. Looks to me like he has been blowing smoke up our a$$es to get a bigger paycheck.
yesterday ESPN reported that his purpose for this 2nd visit to houston was to look at houses and schools. so a day later having a local radio station talk about it is surely not news
Getting down to specific neighborhoods seems to suggest that he is serious about coming to Houston. I really think he's using the Wizard job to up his value. I would do the same thing if I were in his shoes.
I understand that, but I think he looked in tanglewood and west university. If he was just taking a tour he would have been happy with what he saw yesterday. Now he is looking is specific areas. That has to tell you something. I have never seen any coach really look in specific areas for homes and schools if they are not planning on moving here. I am not posting breaking news, but they also made an official offer to Van Gundy today and if you read between the lines you will probably come up with the same answer I did.
driving home from Galveston yesterday I was thinking what might be a good place Van Gundy may like to live and west university was the first area that came to mind. Since he is probably coming from a New York suburb he would probably dig that area in and around Rice campus and it's a fairly close drive to the Downtown arena.
I will say this: If Van Gundy gets on a plane back to New York without reaching an agreement, we can cross his name out as a candidate.
it's obvious that he will come here. He won't coach the wizards, he wants to win, i don't understand why there is even a question of where he will go. Let's see, the wizards or rockets??? tough decision, i would be absolutely shocked if he went to washington. The bottom line is he will either be our coach or be back on TNT. THen next year he gets a shot at a better job like the Lakers or Kings.
funny you should mention Kings but I could see Adelman being let go if the team does make the nba finals. The Lakers will be interesting but I think Phil J will stay on as he seems to be doing a "larry brown" thing. "Maybe I'll retire" or "maybe I'll coach some more". His situation will depend on his health. If he goes, then I see Shaq being traded elsewhere before the Laker ship goes down. Yada, yada, yada.
After watching what happened in Detroit I think anything can happen. And from what I hear the Wizards have a lot of cash and power to throw at Van Gundy.
yeah, the money and power have to be intriguing but they have no talent. Jerry Stackhouse is so overrated, i didn't realize it until last year. You really saw how flawed he was. They have a few role players but they have the #10 pick in a draft that isn't that great. Honestly they are 5 years or more away from being a contender. That's if they get the #1 draft pick say next year and the year after. They are screwed, Van Gundy doesn't want another New York situation. He got the hell out of there before the collapse. And that knick team was twice as good the wizards team, if not 3 times better.
When I first thought about it I thought the same thing. Why would anyone go into the black hole called the wizards organization, but as much importance that Van Gundy is putting on if his family will like the city and the schools and everything else the more I thought it would be a lot easier for him just to stay in the northeast with Washington. It definately would be easier for him and his family to adjust in Washington than in Houston. Other than this question I think it is a done deal.
Van Gundy would rather go back to TNT then go to Washington. There is always a lot of crap that gets put out there that puts doubts in people's minds but the guy is in houston and he'll accept the 5 million to coach Yao and Steve in a new arena.
Cinco Ranch Subdivision or anywhere in Katy will be nice. Katy independent school district is numero uno in that catigory, except, traffic in katy is suck!
I guess some people like to negotiate using the media--Van Gundy and some people like to negotiate behind closed doors and possibly behind current head coaches backs--Larry Brown
That is the truth I am at work right now and I work in katy. I have to drive I-10 every day and it is a nightmare. I live off Eldridge which is closer than katy and about 2min from westside. I have seen a few ball players driving around in the area driving into plush neighborhoods around my area so I guess they like the Eldridge/Westheimer area. It would be hell getting to the arena though. I have also seen a couple of people such as Mcdyess and Van Exel that are not rocket players. I guess they have homes here in Houston they like to use in the offseason. Must be nice.
My mom and stepdad live in Katy. Yep, traffic blows. Exiting Mason Road to get to wherever in Katy is no fun. Katy is pretty much a part of Houston now anyway. Still, would Jeff Van Gundy want to live in Cinco Ranch? Nice area, but for him, I'd say, Live closer to the arena. He's too obsessed with the game to have to worry about all that traveling. When looking around neighborhoods, if I were him, I'd ask, How much does it flood in here? When Alison hit, how underwater were you? Not at all? I'll take it!
