Suprising the wife with a lil trip to NYC in november. Can anyone recommend a good hotel. Price range is open but don't get "Pat O' Brian" on me, i want to keep it reasonable.

Hmm, time to break out my 93' championship stuff.

If you can get a list of hotels, check out www.tripadvisor.com for reviews (or you can just go there and browse NY hotels, for example).

http://www.hotwire.com is also a good site for hotel reservations. I got a room at the Hyatt New Orleans during Mardi Gras weekend for $99 per night.

New York Palace is classy but in midtown. Anything Four Seasons is good too.

If you want to go old school 5th Ave classy, try the Waldorf, Sherry-Netherlands, or the Plaza.

New school downtown hip Soho Grand, Tribeca Grand, Gaansevoort

I think the W is overrated personally and wouldn't stay there if I was in NY.

The Peninsula is very nice I hear now too.

YOu'll pay through the nose for a lot of these places, though I think the ones in the first group might have some deals working.

But mc mark's suggestion is a pretty good one, I think.

I stayed at the Peninsula in Chicago two weeks ago, and it is totally pimp. One of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed at in fact. I had a freaking huge room and all the lights/blinds/electronics were controlled by touchpads. If the one in NYC is like this you should stay there.

Sam there are multiple W's in NY. I've stayed at a couple of them and got typical NYC rooms - small. Very small.

you can try craigslist and look for people renting out their apartments. i found a really nice place (kitchen, kingsize bed, direct TV, broadband) in the city for 100 a night. you usually have to pay a small refundable safety deposit.

We put up a bunch of people from our wedding party at a couple of these hotels. They loved them. Some had kitchenettes. Made you feel like you were "in the know" instead of a regular hotel. They can be pricey, but you can find deals and they're fun.
