It seems this year's hottest toy is the new Nintendo DS handheld. And I got one. I've been searching for one of these for a couple of weeks, and no one has them. If you try to buy one online, they're either sold out or the price is jacked up. So yesterday I'm checking all the stores around town for the third time, and I get a tip at Best Buy...they would have some in on Saturday night. But be here early Sunday! So I show up outside Best Buy at 6:30 this morning for a 9:00 opening. First in line! Soon a woman showed up, then a guy then another, and by 9:00, there were about 30 people in line, all for this Nintendo DS. Earlier the manager came out to tell us there were only 13 available. Since I was first, I got in fast and got one, but I wonder what happened after those 13 were gone? I should have stayed to watch. Anybody else done this before?
Just let everyone in and race. However, the top 6 or seven in line had already agreed on a place in line when the doors open. And that's how it went. But after I got mine, I took off for the registers. Like I said, I should have stuck around to see what happened when the last one was up for grabs. It was actually kind of fun. Me, the girl, and two guys were the only four at first, and we had a good converstation. Once the line started to grow (around 8:15), we got up close to the door to hold our spots. The manager was cool, he kept coming out to talk to us.
I bought mine on ebay with the Super Mario game for $250. (but to be realistic, there's no time-value worth it to me to wake up at 6 on a Sunday.)
lol. Yeah, I've done it for Windows 95. I doubt I'll be doing it again anytime soon. Come to think of it, it wasn't in short supply... I just showed up at midnight for the food and drinks at Computer City. Hmm... ok, so maybe it wasn't the same as what you did.
I paid $149.00 The getting up at six wasn't too bad, I usually get up early anyway. It was the waiting for 2.5 hours that sucked, not to mention all the beer and jello shots from the night before.
just last week, i saw like three or four or five at target. i think bestbuy had some as well last week.
Oh god, more pathetic fanboy sh**. I swear there can't be a DS/PSP thread without someone feeling it their calling in life to bring up the other system. Fatty, if it's any consolation, that isn't too bad a price considering you got Mario 64 as well. Some of the systems alone on Ebay are going 250.
Looks cool, but I am going to have to wait till the PSP comes out. Glad to hear ya woke up and got one. On that Friday after Thanksgiving I woke up at 5:00 am to head to Best bUy and other stores to take advantage of the great prices. When I showed up at Bestbuy there had to be about a 1000 people already lined up outside the store. I was at the one on Old Katy and the line stretched all the way to Cost Co and then curved around the edge of the building. It was nuts!
What you should have done was grab one, let everyone know yours was up for sale, and then give it to the highest bidder in the store. I'm pretty sure someone would have given you money for giving it. Free money is always good, and I'm pretty sure you'd be able to get one pretty soon anyway.
nice work Gramps back to your original point, done the early line-up thing a few times for concerts, footy tickets, and think a few cd and video game releases
ANyone remember the N64 when it came out around X-mas??? THAT WAS CRAZY, people in the CHRON were selling them for $500.00!!!
I waited in line for mine the day it came out, only got there about 10 minutes before they opened. There were about 10 people outside target waiting and they had about 30 systems so everybody got theirs no problem and a few people got two for their kids. It was pretty funny seeing a group of adults run through a target trying to get a Nintendo.
Personally I think I'm gonna hold out for the PSP even though I'm a long time Nintendo fan boy. But I think as long as Nintendo hold the rights to Pokemon, there will always have a nice little company just due to the many Christmas craze that series are gonna bring them. Kids just love pokemon for whatever reason.
My brother got one a little while after it came out and there was a huge rush even then. People will go crazy for all that Nintendo stuff (gameboys, mario, pokemon etc.)
