I think this is wrong. I remember in 1st grade, yes 1st grade, a fellow classmate tried to commit suicide via strangulation because he got in trouble for something in class and was afraid of his hot sauce punishment waiting at home.
You're joking, right? I don't think this punishment would have worked too well on me as I used to drink hot sauce bottles as a kid...for fun.
Haha, wouldn't work in my our household either. Me and my brothers are hot sauce lovers. How were you guys punished when you were kids?
I wish I were. It was a redhead boy named Michael. I remember after that incident he didn't come back to school so maybe some type of authority figure got involved with his family. He actually was turning colors too when attempting it, see the teacher was out in the hall talking to a fellow staff member and just days before pupils were running out into the hall telling on each other for childish things when she went to make copies and she said that she doesn't need to be bothered. So when he started attempting what he did we didn't run out in the hall and tell her because she told us not to, us being very small children we didn't know any better either.
if i t cause not lasting damage and helps the child be discipline I have not problem with it Rocket River We b*tch about out of control kids then we b*tch about anything a parent does to control them you cannot have it both ways
I'm against it, but: Do you really think it was specifically the hot sauce, or an aversion to punishment in general? If he knew he was going to be whipped with a belt, would his reaction have been different? At that age, I doubt it.
I would have preferred Hot Sauce to the beatings (not spankings) I got from my Dad. My kids 4 and 2 are very well behaved and I've never had to spank them or hot sauce them. If you begin reasoning with a child at a very young age you would be surprised how fast they pick it up. My younger sister sucked her thumb. My dad would soak the thumbs of some gloves in Tabasco then duct tape them on her at night to try to make her stop. I don't remember it working but I do know that now my sister hates anything spicy.
But damn, attempted suicide at age 7??? Just seems a little strange to me. Something else had to be going on behind the scenes and not just a somple punishment.
You guys are a bunch of wussie fraidy cats! Why, when I was your age we used to pour Tabasco in our eyes as well as our mouths until we were a bunch of teary eyed, snot infested, nauseated wretches. And we only did that because there was nothing to watch on TV that night!
The way I have gone through bottles of hot sauce since childhood, this would be considered a reward. I think soaping a kids mouth for cursing is much worse.
That's just plain cruel. I bet they'll have a lifetime aversion to hot sauce, which is unfortunate for them. It just seems like a way of hurting something smaller than you. Mild spankings are probably OK if done right, but I doubt I'd ever be able to do that to my kid. I would probably just hope that timeouts and taking away privileges would do the trick.
When I was a kid, I used to get my mouth washed out with soap when I'd curse or disrespect my mother. But I'm not talking about ordinary soap here, I'm talking about Lava Soap. Lava soap takes grease off of you hands, you don't really want to know what it does to your tounge.
Isabel -- i've learned that taking away priviliges...and toys...usually gets the trick done more than anything. if my son understands that spiderman could spend the entire week on the high shelf in my closet, he pretty much straightens up, quickly.
