man i dont wana play hockey after seeing this.....might be posted already since its from the 80s http://media.putfile.com/VUsXPEtgARgf
At such a fast speed, even the blade of the stick could have sliced open the goalies throat. I played hockey for 8 years, and was always afraid that I would fall on the ice and someone would skate over my hands and fingers. We wore padded gloves, but still. Ohh geeze, watching my sister figure skate, and seeing her fall from time to time, seeing her push herself off the ice with her unprotected hands as skaters passed her by, that was about as nerve racking an experience between us siblings as I've ever had thus far as her brother.
I always wondered why there aren't more accidents like the one posted above. That is beyond scary. I am too wussy to even ever try skating.
I saw that on ESPN a while back, and actually was just recently (yesterday maybe) talking to someone about it. The guy almost died. Emergency surgery saved his life, as far as I remember.
The goalie's name was Clint Malarchuk. if you look closely, what happened was, the player for the Blues (dark uniform) was knocked down by the other Buffalo player when the went into the goal ....when the Blues player fell down, his feet/skates came up and hit under Malarchuk's mask.
here is a another pic of the incident (warning: graphic): http://stuff.ubersite.com/10838151369715345/1/Clint Malarchuk.jpg Here is a story on the incident: http://www.ubersite.com/m/32313 BTW ..if I remember correctly, he only spent 1 night in the hospital and came back to play just a week later
