Another big win tonight over Mizzou. We dominated them from start to finish. No storming the floor this time, but satisfying nonetheless. As far as the tourney goes, I'd like to see us advance to at least the Sweet-16. We've had early exits each of the last two years. Hopefully we can enjoy a longer stay in Bracketville this year. Rick Barnes should have the team ready to go this year, and we should be a #4 or #5 seed. Hopefully Boddicker and Fredie Williams will keep playing well. This team will go as far as Owens, Kelly and Evans will take them. HOOK 'EM ------------------ "Oh No..." -Bill Walton in 97 just before Stockton's buzzer beater
I really dont follow any college team in particular but am always interested when the Horns play. Just out of curiosity, does anybody know what their class for next season is looking like so far. I hear they are getting one of the guys from Willowridge. Is he for real? Anyway, sorry about looking to far in the future. I cant see the Horns getting beyond the Sweet 16 this year, although just getting there should be an improvement as you say. ------------------
TJ Ford from Willowridge is supposed to be the real deal, a triple double threat every night. My feeling about the Horns is the same as the football team. I'll give them a pass this year (early exit), next year is the year for both squads. ------------------ www.swirve.com...The reason Al Gore invented the internet.
Ford's what, 5'10"...? What's the third double going to be in, steals...? I'm with you though on the team's prospects for this post-season with the caveat that it depends on the draw. (Well, DUH, Kagy). I figure Texas will end up a 5-seed. We'll almost certainly win our first round game; if the 13 upsets the 4, or if we play a nice soft 4-seed like Maryland or Boston College, I think we're in the Sweet 16. ------------------ Things are tough all over, I know what you mean... --Damon Johnson
BC is going to be a 2 or 3 seed . Seriously though, the Horns are my second favorite team... but they seem to perform DRASTICALLY different from game to game. What's the deal? Why do they beat teams like Illinois and Iowa State and then slaughtered by Oklahoma? ------------------ Why is it that everytime BC defeats a major conference opponent, that opponent promptly goes on a losing streak? PS. Notre Dame sucks
Ford's what, 5'10"...? What's the third double going to be in, steals...? He averages 9 steals a game right now I'm with you though on the team's prospects for this post-season with the caveat that it depends on the draw. (Well, DUH, Kagy). I figure Texas will end up a 5-seed. We'll almost certainly win our first round game; if the 13 upsets the 4, or if we play a nice soft 4-seed like Maryland or Boston College, I think we're in the Sweet 16. Yeah -- I'm guessing a 5 seed unless we make the Big 12 Final (meaning we beat Kansas or Iowa State again). If we can win out (doubtful), I think we have an outside shot at a 3 seed, as we'll be on a 8 or 9 game win streak including 3 Top 10 wins (2 Iowa State, 1 Kansas). As far as advancing, we seem to have serious issues with certain teams (OU, for example). We also have trouble with teams with big people (7fters). Like everyone else said, it REALLY depends on the draw, but I'd be disappointed if we didn't make the sweet 16. ------------------ http://www.swirve.com ... more fun than a barrel full of monkeys and midgets. Averaging nine steals a game in high school doesn't exactly translate well to college. But it's obvious RM95 meant he could do it (a trip-dub) on any given night. Not that he'd average it. I misunderstood. If we end up in the same Regional as OU, I say we turn the bid down and go to the NIT. What is it with them?
You're damn right anything less than the Sweet-16 would be disappointed. Last year we were a top-15 team only to fall to Stromile and LSU. The year before we lost to Purdue in the opening round after winning the Big 12. This year the Horns have proven that they can play with the best, beating Illinois, Iowa State, Indiana, and UConn. We've also been tested against the likes of Arizona, Duke, Kansas, and OU. This team looks like it's jelling at the right time- before the postseason. Look for Texas to do some big things in the Dance. ------------------ "Oh No..." -Bill Walton in 97 just before Stockton's buzzer beater
You guys are right that the team is peaking at the right time, and it would be nice to make the sweet 16. But regardless of how things turn out in the tourney, I've got to hand it to Rick Barnes. He's done a heck of a job with a squad that lost Mihm and Muoneke. I really thought this would be one of those regrouping years for Texas basketball. ------------------ In Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock.
He's done a heck of a job with a squad that lost Mihm and Muoneke. I really thought this would be one of those regrouping years for Texas basketball. No kidding. I didn't expect much. Besides losing the two big guys, they lost Wagner who was a great defensive player... But Fredie Williams might be the best defensive point guard I've ever seen (and he's only a freshman). ------------------ http://www.swirve.com ... more fun than a barrel full of monkeys and midgets.
Not only did we lose Mihm and Muoneke, but also Ivan Wagner and William Clay. So we lost 4 out of 5 starters. That just shows you what kind of a coach Rick Barnes is. ------------------ "Oh No..." -Bill Walton in 97 just before Stockton's buzzer beater
just wanna say that i think brian boddicker is really cute (and he has a great name too!) ------------------
I deer hunt north of Bracketville. I wish my school had a basketball team to brag about. Well, good luck to you Horns out there! Pretty impressive Iowa State win. ------------------ "...just because a clever person can complicate the discussion about the truth doesn't necessarily mean he or she is making any progress in finding it."
And just where is Gabe Mouneke? I remember in high school when he'd play us and go nuts scoring at will! It was just fun watching him whoop the snot out of my friends who were on the team. ------------------ "...just because a clever person can complicate the discussion about the truth doesn't necessarily mean he or she is making any progress in finding it."
Freddie! Freddie! I hope next year Freddie and Ford Start at the guard spots. It will be a short line up, but they should be able to frustrate penetrators. Freddie should start at the PG. His play recently is the big reason for UT's streak. He did a remarkable job on Tinsley. ------------------
