I have not said anything about this since it occured because I didn't know him, but Pfc. Menchaca's family lives down the road from me. I know the news says he is from Houston, but he went to middle school and High School in Brownsville, and he was last here on Mother's Day. He was buried here today. We had Patriot Guard Riders here, and if I had known they would be here helping, I would have volunteered my Mustang Club to help block those psycho Westboro Baptist Church idiots. This brings me to the subject of the thread. My Mustang club is in the city's 4th of July parade. I would like to ask for your help in ideas to honor PFC Menchaca in the parade. I'm not looking to gain any notoriety for our club from this. I just think it is something we can do to honor a fallen soldier. We are limited to 5 cars, and we typically dress them up in red, white, and blue ribbons, as well as flying flags from the antennas. Please, let's not have any arguments in this thread. Any ideas would truly be appreciated.
Did those Westboro Church group show up to protest? I haven't been able to catch the news. But you would think that group would have jobs to attend to instead of traveling all over the country.
No, they didn't show up. http://www.brownsvilleherald.com/ts_comments.php?id=71474_0_10_0_C June 29, 2006 — After announcing they would protest the funeral of Army Pfc. Kristian Menchaca, a Brownsville soldier who died in Iraq after being kidnapped June 16, the Westboro Baptist Church failed to show up. As far as our plans to honor PFC Menchaca, we are going to arrange our cars in a missing man formation. We'll also drape banners on either side of the lead car in honor of Pfc Menchaca.
Well, maybe you can start by putting an oversized picture of him on your cars. Otherwise, noone is going to know your honoring him but just think your celebrating the 4th. On a side note, I felt horrible when I heard about what these three soldiers in this lone Humvee went through and being left alone like that by their fellow soldiers. I can see why the families are mad about it. I would be livid. It should have never went down like that. Somebody dropped the ball bigtime and these two men paid the ultimate price for it. I hope the military learns from this and doesn't do something stupid like this ever again.
Thanks for the tip. We are planning on draping some banners over either side of the lead car with some words to honor PFC Menchaca.
