I've been saying Francis was better than Marbury but as of lately, Marbury has been stepping up and carrying his team (they beat SA and Dallas when they needed to). Sorry to say but I haven't seen Francis do this for a while.

Its hard to say this but I think Marbury gets the nod. I hope Francis takes this to heart and steps up his game like Marbury did this year.

    Yeah, Marbury's better...and?

Man, you'd think people would at least wait until the season's over to start the pointless threads...

Clearly Marbury. Before the season I would have said Francis but this season really opened my eyes on Marbury. Marbury is a better passer than Francis and is a more "consistant" and explosive scorer than Francis. Their defense is about the same. Francis is an explosive scorer but not "consistant." It is that consistancy that is the difference from a decent player to an ALL STAR type player.

Until Francis can adequetly run pick and rolls with teammates and get higher assist numbers AND perform at a more consistant level (no more crappy shooting nights) he won't be at Marbury's level.

Marbury is better because he has been playing the position longer. I don't think he is all that smart, but he just knows how to pass. You have to remember, Marbury is a legendary New York City point guard in the same way Kenny Anderson, Kenny Smith, and Earl Monroe were when they were coming out of High School. Both Francis and Marbury are incredibly talented and Marbury's only problem in the NBA has been his selfishness. Even while being selfish the guy is a career 8 assist a game point guard. He's a natural talent. He's also been in the NBA longer.

I went to a game at Compaq Center against Phoenix. Marbury totally outplayed Steve. Defensively, Offensely and distributing the ball. So at this point, I have to go with Marbury. But I do think that Steve is on his way to becoming a better player. I think that the gap is not as big as it appears. I think Marbury's supporting cast is alot more consistent than Steve's so he feels comfortable in giving up the ball to them.

Are you talking about the game in which we were beating the Suns by 24 at halftime, or the game where Marbury got 32 points on 29 shot attempts?

About the same. Marbury is a ballhog, shoots low percentage, and is no great passer or floor general.

I always see the Phoenix Suns win a game in the last second with an outside shot from Marbury. Do they really think that is the way to win? Outside shots from your 43% shooter?

So the consensus of the board so far is that Marbury is better than Francis, yet they're surprised that Phoenix finished ahead of the Rockets. Ooooookaaayyyyy........

Marbury has always had great court vision and passing ability. He's averaged 8-9 assists per game throughout his career. Obviously he's a great scorer. The only thing that has hampered him is his selfishness. He has to be the man on offense making all the decisions. This year he's looked like a true leader. Often putting the team on his back.

Steve, I think it may be the other way around. He's not selfish. He's been looking to get his teammates more involved, particularly after the all star break. He's been more than willing to defer to Yao on offense. The thing is Steve just frankly doesn't have the same natural point guard ability that Marbury has. He's never had the court vision or passing ability that Marbury has. And while Marbury's defense is not great, Steve's is just terrible.

That's why I have to give the edge to Marbury.

I'd take Marbury if you could put a muzzle on him.

    About the same.

Marbury will finish like 1-2 games better than Francis. This doesn't make Francis light years behind Marbury.

I think people are drastically overrating Marbury, just because he made the playoffs.

I don't think much of either Marbury or Francis, and would hesitate to heap praise on either of them for "winning" the #8 seed. In the West, 8 of 14 teams make the playoffs.

Marbury didn't exactly invent the wheel, by making it to the playoffs. If Francis had eeked in his way into the playoffs over Marbury, would we be talking about how much better Francis is, than Marbury?

Fact is that both guys spew trash that BFI would reject, anytime they open their mouth. Neither player gives a damn about playing defense, and look to pad stats at every opportunity.

If Marbury had led the Suns to a 4 seed or something, then maybe Marbury would deserve praise.

    What Joe said.
If he would just shut his mouth, he would be considered one of the best players in the league.

    Steph is the better player.

So that makes him a great passer? He handles the ball a lot and plays a lot of minutes. I was reading the Suns website, they were saying he is definitely not as good as Kevin Johnson in terms of passing.

And Kevin Johnson' ahead of him on that list. Magic, Stocton, Oscar, Kidd, Isiah, K.J., and Norm Nixon, then Marbury. That's pretty damn good company.

Okay, maybe he's better than I thought. But he still shoots too much.

Sorry forgot to make this point, every point guard handles the ball for his team, yet every point guard isn't in the top ten in assist per game all time. I don't like Marbury, but I have to admit the guy is a good point guard. He's just not a winner. Everyone equates passing the ball to being smart. It doesn't take a damn genius to pass the ball to an open teamate. It also doesn't take a lot of maturity. Passing ability doesn't reflect maturity, I think a lot of guys are equating them in these threads.

I voted for Wink. I wouldn't call Marbury their point guard. Yes, he's smaller then Penny, and yeah, the ball is in his hands most of the time. But he isn't the floor general that Hardaway is. Stevie has it hard. Being a PG, his job is to pass. But when he passes, the teammates that he has aren't able to knock down the shots. I don't know, maybe its just because I'm a Rocks fan.
