Homey DO Play Dat Written 04-07-2003 by EdwardHavens In 1990, Keenan Ivory Wayans was able to build upon the mild box office success of "I'm Gonna Get You, Sucka!" by creating a new sketch comedy show for Fox, "In Living Color." For five seasons, Wayans and his talented cast created a number of memorable characters including Herman Simpson, better known as Homey The Clown. Damon Wayans portrayed the ex-con turned petulant entertainer, with his balding red hair, baggy yellow and orange clown suit with large pompom buttons and oversized shoes. Nine years after the ground-breaking show left the airwaves, Damon and Keenen Ivory Wayans will team together to bring “Homey The Clown” to the big screen in 2004. How quickly has this project come together? The screenplay, co-written by the Wayans brothers along with “Major Payne” co-scribe Dean Lorey, was turned into the Fox brass ten days ago, March 28, and the Wayans already have a green light to begin shooting in Los Angeles starting in May. The story will follow Homey as he takes a job at the City of Angels Children Center, an inner city children's shelter, run by the beautiful Denise Parsons. Homey’s nemesis, The Man, will take physical form in D.A. Mann, a self-serving, smarmy district attorney currently running for Mayor. It was Mann who helped Homey get this job working at the shelter and promised major funding for the center to Denise, but Mann is far more interested in raising his polling than he is in the children's welfare, and threatens to cut off the funding when he realizes he’s just not getting enough good spin out of the announcement. Will Homey be able to save the Center and get Denise to fall in love with him? YIKES! This is starting to sound like a bad SNL skit stretched out to feature length, isn’t it? We certainly hope not, especially from the brain trust that brought us Men on Film, the Homeboy Shopping Network, the Loomis Simmons Psychic Line, The Wrath of Farrakhan, Tom and Tom The Brothers Brothers and Three Champs and a Baby. At least we know it can’t be worse than “The Ladies Man,” right? Right? ”Homey The Clown” Scorecard Director: Keenen Ivory Wayans Writers: Dean Lorey, Damon Wayans, Keenen Ivory Wayans Producers: Rick Alvarez, Keenen Ivory Wayans Casting Director: Mali Finn Production Start Date: May 2003 Shooting Locations: Los Angeles Distributor: 20th-Century Fox
I loved Homey the Clown, it might be a reasonably funny movie, but it sounds to much like "Undercover Brother", which was REALLY funny. I hope they make a sequel to Undercover Brother, they could easily have an Austin Powers-type ongoing franchise with it. Maybe not as popular or lucrative, but still very good,
I loved Homey the Clown and In Living Color was awesome. Homey the Clown, the two gay guys Antoine Merriweather and something else, Mo Money, Fire Marshall Bill, that disgusting woman skit that Jim Carrey played, and Handi Man. I loved Handi Man. Anyway, I would definitely go see this just on principle.
I agree. This would be similar to a "Ford Fairlane 2". I loved this movie when it originally came out. But it is horribly stale! BTW; I adopted a cat in 1990. (19 freakin' 90) MAN I'm old. Anyway "In living color" was big back then, so I named him Homey the cat; or simply "Homey". You can imagine my embarassment later in life for naming a cat something so stupid. Again, I loved the theme; Here's to hoping the Wayan's can pull another magical thing out of their arse. (Since ILC, I haven't seen anything remotely humourous) Just my opinion. And Homey the cat? Gave him to an ex after realizing that I just don't really like cat's. (But it is AMAZING how much you can make a cat a dog if you want to. That's why everyone loved Homey. But.. then again.. even I could live with a dog like cat for two years.)
Another thing that Keenan is likely working on, don't feel like searching for sources right now, is another parody movie with the Wayans Bros. Since they walked from Dimension for a better deal, they aren't behind Scary Movie 3, so now they are doing a movie that will make fun of Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and Harry Potter.
