    Attention Homeowners:

I need someone to recommend a contractor/handyman with carpentry skills to me.

I have a sliding glass patio door that I want to replace with a double French (oops sorry...Freedom) door setup. Carpentry work would have to be done to make it fit.

All of the contractors I know who would do this small a job are booked up for at least the next month.

Anybody know of someone reputable they can recommend to me?

What type of "carpentry work" is needed? Enlarge the opening or make it smaller?

One of our best friend's is a top notch contractor. He did a fantastic (and cheap) job putting in a custom fireplace mantle and a sliding pocket door. My wife is a realtor and has several other fairly priced contractors that can do work for you.

Probably making it smaller...just trying to make it fit right. Plus some work on the floor will have to be done...it's rotting out underneath the sliding glass door track on the bottom.

I also have some contractor connections. My father is a contractor, though he is semi-retired (and currently building an addition to his house). But, he knows some folks in the business. Email me through my profile if you're interested and I'll get you a phone number or two.

Same thing, and my Dad just installed my french door...

He's slow and talks a lot but gets the job done.

I have a guy that does handyman stuff, he's reasonable and a really cool guy.

He replaced an exterior door on my house and did a really good job.

    Email me if you're interested.

Please let me know how that works out. The idiots who built this house had 2 sliding glass doors and 18 feet of windows b/c they were too cheap to go with Freedom Doors along the back wall.

I was considering doing ours in a month or so myself, but I think I will be getting a contractor since it is all ready miserably hot.

As an insurance adjuster, I've dealt with all kinds of contractors, both good and bad. If anyone has any questions or needs a recommendation, shoot me an email:
    Lynus302@yahoo.com

I know some good guys, and I also know some straight-up crooks. Let me know as I'd be glad to help.

    Disclaimer --
FYI -- any recommendations come from me as a friend, and not as a representative of any insurance company.

Do you just do property adjusting or do you do auto adjusting too?

Property and casualty. Auto has its own adjusters.

Major carrier or are you an independent?

I do independent auto claims and adjusting. Plus investigations and dispute resolution (arbitration).

I work for Crawford & Company, who has a contract with State Farm. I (along with many others) was specifically hired to handle the mold claims in the Houston area.
