Close your blinds and buy a light timer to randomly turn on and off lights next to your front windows to give the illusion of somebody being home when you are gone. Do not do this in a really poor neighborhood because you don't want them to know you have electronics worth stealing. Above all else don't live in a ****ty neighborhood. The price premium for a safe neighborhood is almost always worth it.
lol for the people I assumed I live in a ****ty neighborhood lol. wrong.... I live in a 5 bedroom home in Champions. I am doing just fine.... Was just curious as to what measures you all take for security.
Storm windows and a storm door with a deadbolt and security glass on front and back/side doors. Bright Dusk-Dawn LED flood light over the driveway and a dimmable LED light at front door w/ motion detection (stays dim until motion is detected then shines bright). A sturdy well maintained privacy fence with a well trained pit bull out back. Works for me at least.
You should get those light fixtures that mimic the police car red and blue flashing lights. Whenever I see those around town, I know I'm safe.
