Just curious to know how many people have these kinds of systems in their homes and whether they use a service like ADT or are more DIY. What benefits do you see yourselves getting out of these types of systems?
I've used Simplisafe for about 3 years now. I think it's great. I even moved houses with it. No problems. The only comment I'd have now is that while they have been around and successful for a while, with the big guys getting into the space, ultimately those guys will offer more features than Simplisafe. Meaning, like everything else, it might be easier ultimately to go with Apple, or Google, or AT&T, to do security+home automation. Simplisafe doesn't do much home automation. Not that I really need that at the moment.
How weird... I've been looking into home security systems/services over the past few days and was planning to make a thread to see if anyone here recommends Simplisafe. Clutchfans never fails me! I'll rep both of you for the telepathic connection!
I used an independent company to install and monitor our home alarm system and I can access it via alarm.com. I can control our alarms, door lock(s), thermostats and lights. We have a similar setup at our lake house. I use VueZone cameras in each house and have them strategically placed to pick up motion detecting. I use vuezone.com to monitor them. The benefit is the peace of mind I have with being able to monitor things especially when we are away. Also, both houses appear lived in due to cycling the lights on and off at random times.
I received the notice from ADT that their 2G system installed in the house is being phased out, and they are trying to sell me on some new thingamabob called ADT Pulse. Anyone use that? Reviews, praise, complaints? Alternative suggestions?
I've been looking into this again. I'm focused on the Z-wave but am open to better technology if it is out there and affordable. The biggest feature I need is the ability to lock my door when away from home since I live with a kid who is old enough to know better but still leaves the ******* door unlocked every other week when she leaves for school.
Thanks for the info. I wonder if folks with home security / automation systems spend a lot of time traveling or vacationing, or just very much focused on protecting their family. Would you guys describe yourself as technophiles?
