Driving through Memorial Park just now (12:45-ish), I almost just hit (one of) the coyote(s). The damn thing was standing on the island in the middle of the road. I thought it was a statue or something, but as I approached, it darted right across the road in front of my car, maybe coming within 5-10 feet of being my new hood ornament.

That is all. It just kind of freaked me out. I half believed they were just an urban legend or mass hallucination or something.

My folks live in West Houston near the Hershey Park. In their backyard is many many acres of untouched forest land belonging to the city. At night, they can hear the coyotes howling and sometimes they even walk around the backyard property since it's all dense forest.

I've seen them in the past when visiting. They kind of look like ugly dogs with mange. They are medium sized about 50 lbs or so. Coyotes are generally afraid of people so they will run away when you approach.
