As many of you know, I travel quite a bit for work. Well we had a christmas party today at my bosses house and she started going down the list of top travelers in our group. Well I was in the top 10 and I had expenses of 110K and thats without the 7K I haven't expensed yet. Holy crap thats alot of money on plane tickets, hotels and food. The top traveler in my group spent almost 250K in travel. I don't know how the heck you spend that much money in one year.
The problem is they pay to travel to WORK. Work on the plane, work in the hotel, work at the restaurants, and work in the middle of the night when I'm in a different time zone as the person I need to talk to. I can't say its all bad, but it isn't as glamourous as people think it is. And 20 hours on a plane and in airports sucks even when you fly in first class, although it does suck a lot less..
Yep. My wife's done the travel-for-work thing more this year. It's definitely not like a paid vacation. It's tiring.
Is your work paper based or laptop/computer based? I've always been interested in traveling work. I guess mainly because I like to see new places and meet new people although it sounds like you dont get that much time for that.
There are only three reasons why a company would want you to travel. Its a sales job and most of those jobs require crappy travel like down to the valley. You have a skill no one else has so its worth it to spend lots of money to send you places The job sucks so bad no one is willing to do it, so they have to spend a lot of money to send you there.
