This senior class will have played in the Holiday Bowl 3 out of 4 years. Unbelievable. I would have preferred the Alamo personally, because it's only an hour drive from here.
talented team, but probably as big of screw-ups as we are. I wouldn't be surprised to see Wazzou take a td lead or two, then "Coog it" and Texas pulls off the win.
Mack Brown better have his team ready to play, because if he loses the WSU, he could still lose his job.
I would have declined the Holiday. There is little to gain, much to lose playing Wazzou. Fans don't want to go to the same venue. There's little interest. Unless you're wealthy or a diehard fan, you're going to watch it on TV at home. Players probably want to get the game over with ASAP. I know I would. Both are disappointed. Man this thing could get ugly quick. At least playing in the Alamo, you would be close to your fan base. The fans would pump up the players. UT has never played in the Alamodome. It would be a relatively easy W. Who cares about SOS at this point? The season is over.
Didn't the Cotton Bowl have the first pick of Big XII teams after the BCS bowls? If so, how the hell did the Cotton Bowl pick OSU over Texas, when Texas destroyed the Cowboys?
Simple. Who is going to buy tickets? OSU fans are starved. Texas fans couldn't care less about anything but the BCS.
Do you guys really not understand the process of selecting schools in bowl games? When they mean Big 12 #2, etc. it has nothing to do with standings, and everything to do with which school they believe they can make the most revenue off of. OSU is more likely to buy tickets and fill hotel rooms in Dallas, than UT fans. Especially since UT seemingly goes to the Cotton ever year.
Mack Brown better have his team ready to play, because if he loses the WSU, he could still lose his job. Mack Brown won't lose his job. He has a 10-year, $1.5M contract that UT would have to eat. I think we might still be paying Mackovic's contract. No way UT eats another one. I would have declined the Holiday. There is little to gain, much to lose playing Wazzou. Fans don't want to go to the same venue. There's little interest. Texas's alumni base *loves* vacationing in San Diego for New Year's. There will be plenty of burnt orange there. Each time we've been there, the bowl has been absolutely thrilled with the attendance and interest from Texas.
Okay, so now my New Year's plans are spoiled somewhat. We were going to drive from Vegas to Tempe for the Fiesta Bowl. I guess it'll be Vegas for 4 nights instead. I started drinking heavily during the 3rd quarter of the Big 12 game last night. I took the bag of Tostitos that I hung over the fireplace, and smashed it against the wall. Then went to a party where I proceeded to down beers at a feverish pace. I ended up throwing up in the parking lot outside my apartment after coming home. And my roommate had to carry me up the stairs. I spent half the day sleeping the hangover off while watching the Texans get pummeled by Jax. I'm now sweating profusely as I surf the web. F*ck the Holiday Bowl. F*ck Carl Reese. F*ck Greg Davis. F*ck OU.
There is a pretty large Texas Ex presence in Southern California. But the students will stay home for this one.
There is a pretty large Texas Ex presence in Southern California. But the students will stay home for this one. I agree, but realistically, I'm not really sure either the school or the bowl is too concerned with the students when it comes to $$$ and making alumni happy.
What? This is our 3rd trip to San Diego in 4 years. People are tired of mediocre bowl games. 2000 was our first trip ever. There was a lot of excitement playing Oregon. In 2001 fans made the trip to support the team after the CCG debacle.
The Holiday Bowl is a fine bowl no shame in going to San Diego. calm down. UT will finish in the top 5 with a convincing victory.
Three types of fans be at the game: 1) Rich 2) Diehards 3) CA alums The majority of fans ("Joe Fan") won't be making the trek to San Diego like 2000 and 2001, and that is the atmosphere the Holiday Bowl is expecting. They will be surprised when UT lays an egg on the field and in the stands.
