I am curious are there MSN holdem players here? If so do you people know how good are poker skill of say 1900-2000 on MSN site is? I have started playing free online pokers but I have no idea how good my skills are. I am usually 1900+ with some 2000+ and some sub 1900 periods. How does that translate to if I enter some local poker tournments with say 30-40 buy ins?
Why is that? I would like to hear from people who have played both so they can give a good comparison. I think people tend to take more risks with fake money, but if you played on MSN you know people are not that careless with their fake money. I guess too bad poker is not chess where skill translates no matter what.
fake money is fake money. you don't really care about it. put some real money on the table, and it's gonna take you 10 minutes to make a 5 second decision with fake money.
i'll teach you the difference between real and fake money. just stop by my house anytime with some cash.
It depends on the person on how you go from play to real. If you gamble often and are betting money you can lose, it will be very similar.
I have played with a few friends once a month for a while (10 bucks buy in, two games usually). So it is not that I have not played with real money before, the tournments I am looking at are only 30-40 bucks buy in and about 100-150 people. I do ok with them but since I have not played with other people before, I have no idea how good my skills are.
Other than playing a bunch of hands... I don't think on-line poker helps with real life games. Live poker is as much about the people as it is about the cards.
Go go MSN games and play the holdem. link Too bad there is no money in chess or I would be making some good side money, as I am the best chess player in town.
Have you played MSN hold em? Play it and see what kind of rating and winning you can get before you knock it down so much. People are not all reckless with their fake money as some may think here. I have won a little bit of money in chess before little over 5k, so I do know what it means with money riding on the line.
This. What online poker doesn't help with is reading people at a table and preventing them from reading you.
That is true, but if you never know these people before how would you read them? They could be faking what ever you are seeing.
Playing with fake money, you never get that sense of excitement. Like when there is $500 in the pot. You have pocket Jacks. You're going up against three other hands. You're all in, with two other players and the guy who has all of you covered hits a set of 10s after the flop. So it only takes one hand for you to loose $200 and for the guy with a set of 10s to win over $500 of real money.
I will pass. Fake money poker is like wackin off in front of a hot girl. If I'm playing......I want REAL action.
indeed, but.....some people, such as myself, couldn't care less about live play. I think I have played enough hands in both arenas to feel confident enough to claim that online poker players are vastly superior to live players. online poker really breaks hold em down to mathematics. Live play relys on tells and instinct way too much.
