if they suddenly retired today who would be in the HOF.... (no extrapolating figures but if their final career figures were frozen as of today) - also no players already retired prior to this year, who simply are awaiting induction... a few to begin: no doubters: 1.Shaq - easy call 2. Duncan - his numbers are only so-so compared to HOF's but his rings put him easily in likely Kobe - 3 rings and even at young age has pretty impressive alltime numbers Kidd - top 5 alltime in assists possibly Garnett - numbers put him close but unless he gets ring, i'm not sure Iverson - i doubt unless gets ring doubtful - Dikembe - other than blocks, numbers are okay (rebounds top 20 I think). but if they consider off-court activities then yes Mourning - a few years from now I doubt his comeback from kidney transplant will be as heartwarmingly remembered and his numbers are only
Isn't it pretty easy to get into the Hall in the NBA? You have KG and Iverson as possibly, I assumed all MVP winners were locks.
i think i change my mind on KG - his numbers are much better than duncan's and so I think he a definite. Iverson can score but his lack of leadership (at least perceived) hurts him...
Nash is almost a lock at this point, with the back-to-back MVPs. For Iverson, I think he gets in eventually, though maybe not first ballot. Same with Garnett, though he's more likely to get in on a first ballot. Kobe is close to a lock. I think Mutombo eventually gets in as well. One of the great rebounders/shot blockers in NBA history, and he's regarded so highly for his charities.
The thing about the HOF...is that it's a basketball HOF and not just a NBA HOF. You have players like Dalipagic who haven't even played one NBA game. Personally, even though I don't like him, that makes players like Ginobili very likely to make the HOF. In fact, if anyone's a lock, it's Gino.
i said retired right now... Kobe is not in top 20 scoring yet. no MVP's yet. i think he'll get in, but i don't think its as automatic. forgot to talk about Nash - but again his career numbers are only so-so. hell even mugsy bogues has more assists than Nash. you look at the 4 years in phoenix only and he looks great. but you look at the previous 4 years in dallas where he was playing similiar minutes and he only average 7.5-8 assists/game. not bad at all but not great. and for a guard he has very few steals. having said that - yeah he 2 MVP's will go a long way and likely he'll be in.
after having read some of the names in the HOF - i change my mind to include Kobe and Kidd as automatics and Garnett to likely. (man the bar isn't that high for the HOF as I thought)
All those guys are no doubters -- Mourning because he overcame the kidney transplant and won a championship. Deke because of his longevity, blocks, and sexual prowess.
A bit on the low side, but hey, anything's possible. Though, if Yao can get about three to five more 20/10 seasons, he's virtually guaranteed a spot in the HOF, what with the international connection.
I think every guy on the list is a first timer into the Hall of Fame with the exception of Iverson and that is due to his (early career) public image. Then again, you never know. Dominique Wilkins was not a first timer into the HOF and this is a guy who gave guys named Jordan, Bird and Magic all they could handle for many years.
I think all the men listed originally will end up in the hall........Mourning is the only "I don't know" on my list...............Shaq, Kobe, Kidd, Duncan, AI, KG, and Deke will all get in...........
right now I'd say no to all 4.............Dirk might have the best chance since he's won an MVP...if he maintains a good career throughout the rest of his playing days he'll probably make it...........no to Ray Allen.......no to Tmac.....Grant Hill would've been one, but no because he was injured far too much..........
i am pretty sure yao ming is be in HOF. not so much for what he does on the court, but his contribution to bring in so many new fans into the sport. of course, in a few years, his on court performance will help him too.
Long-shots, but still have a great chance of getting in: Vince Carter - life time scoring average is like 24 ppg, hard to say, because he has about another good 4 to 7 years left in him and he could land on a good team. Manu Ginobili, Michael Finley, & Tony Parker - the championships will be a big factor, plus their lifetime numbers keep going up every year.....the NBA HOF, like NFL HOF, loves to induct players who might have just be good or a run of the mill all-star, but at least won a championship. Yao Ming - First prominent basketball player from China, also he strangely has career numbers better than or as good as BIll Walton, Robert Parrish, Alonzo Mourning, Willis Reed ... if he ever wins an MVP or NBA Title it will probably propel him into HOF...also he has been an all-star for his entire career and looks to be another 4 or 5 teams... Elton Brand - Career 20-10 player, will probably get in at some point. Sam Cassell - Surprised nobody mentioned him, not as good as some of the other HOF point guards, but he does have a few all-star appearances and NBA titles. LeBron James - I believe if Lebron played his last season, this year. They would let him in the HOF, he probably had greatest first 4 years of possibly any other player in league history. Tom Chambers (deactivated) - He probably won't be first ballot, but he was d@mn good player, and a really high scoring average.
