I guess Adelman meant it when he said he didn't like how casual guys were with the ball. It was time to get down to business.

As for Battier, I wonder if he'll get more points and offensive rebounds. He was mostly a spot-up guy last season, and shot well from the arc, but he was a pretty good offensive rebounder previously, meaning he knows how to slither around the basket looking for garbage points, too.

People forgot Battier was a 20/7 guy in Duke... i hope he can sharpen his scoring skills this off season and return to his Duke form

Shane actually dribbled the ball down the court during a few fast breaks against the Hornets and he hit Scola with a sweet bounce pass to finish the break. Correct me if I'm wrong that was Shane out there that did these things.

You mean "Shane's role will NOT be signficantly diminished in the new season?"

I dont think shane, or anyone else for that matter, will be a clear 3rd option and 3rd leading scorer.

We are going to see 5 guys average between 8-10 points a game (Battier, Alston, MJ, SF3 and Bonzi.)

The luxury we have is that anyone of those guys, and more than likely one a game, will break out and have a 20 point night, reinforcing out offense and making us even harder to defend.

Gonna be a good season guys :D

Great, but Shane's Duke form is irrelevant. He's been a 10/5 guy since joining the NBA. What will change from last season is the inordinate amount of 3s, which were more than half of his FG attempts. Adelman's offense will require Shane to work harder on that end whether he shoots or not. I didn't mean to be harsh, but I said last season Shane was sometimes lazy on offense and it hurt the team. He can't get away with that now.

On the concept of a 3rd option, something will develop over the course of the season. It will either be Scola, Bonzi, SF or MJ. Things are in a state of flux right now but a fairly clear #3 option will become evident as the season progresses.

Hmm has anyone noticed that the guys who are getting Adelman's accolades are the same guys that Van Gundy had starting?

    So far these guys are:

    Yao
    T-Mac
    Battier
    Alston

All that's left is the remaining PF position that last year was filled by Hayes as starter.

I still think Battier is going to see his minutes go down. Bonzi looks too good in this offense to not eat up some of Shane's minutes. Also, I think Tmac is going to see time a SF to free up minutes at Guard for Francis and possibly Head.

I think we will see Shane's minutes go from last year's 36 a game to around 26-28.

well i think the main reason those guys will start w/ tmac and yao is more chemistry than anything. alston and battier have the most experience with yao and knowing where their fav spots are on the court. so to start a season with a brand new different lineup around tmac and yao would be a struggle.

so i won't be surprised if hayes is gonna start too. then if he wants to make changes, he'll do that as the season progresses.

but another thing, battier and alston have not done anything to hurt themselves. alston has played great. and battier will never be on the bench.

Adelman has his hands full. With all this talent, how could you resist simply playing the 8 man rotation. If it were me, I'd be looking at who we are playing on that particular night and play the guys that would cause the most trouble for the opposing team. I'd look at matchups and exploit them.

On nights where you play back to backs, I'd rest the tired guys and play the other guys a lot more minutes. It will cause a lot of problems for other teams.

The Rockets basically have the luxury of having two sets of starting units. The first 10 guys can start on other teams.

I was thinking the same. This team is so stacked that our second unit could pick up big minutes on the second half of back to backs and we would not have much drop in talent.

    Bonzi
    Francis
    James
    Head

are all guys that will come off the bench (or not even make the rotation in Head's case) when these guys could start for a lot of teams in the league. What a luxury it would be to have Tmac only play 20 minutes on the second night of a back to back and let Bonzi and Francis pick up 30+ minutes.

We're going to see a lot more midrange jumpers, in my opinion. Battier could benefit from that.

I saw a couple of floaters from the Batman in the game against Panathinaikos, so I think that he has some variety when it comes to finishing around the hoop. He's going to be cutting to the basket way more than last year, so he's going to have to dig into his bag of tricks if he wants to convert on a lot of those passes.

What I'm actually stoked to see is the way Scola and Battier are gonna shut down the lane by taking all those charges. I can't wait to see the frustration in opposing players' faces when they realize that when they drive, Battier and/or Scola will be waiting in the lane.

You got me there. I guess I got so enamored by Scola that I forgot that Chuck was a charge-taking machine last year.
