Wasn't it posted previously that the Rockets had received a letter from the Orlando Magic stating they would not be conveying the pick this season to Houston? That CD or someone had stated it on the air -- seemed a few others confirmed it was said... Well the official word from the organization today is there has been no word yet on either the pick from Detroit or Orlando. So, something conflicts.... Granted, still not likely we'll get any picks from Orlando, but that was the official word... ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET
dennis lindsay acted like they had already received the letter. from what he said i understood that the deadline for the magic to decide if they were giving us the pick had already passed and the rockets had already received the letter saying they would not get the pick ------------------ Shane "Save Our Rockets" "Life without basketball in Houston........without an arena that is what it will be"
oooh....Clutch-where did you hear the "official word"? Your source, or was it in the paper or somewhere? I'd be THRILLED to get the Orlando #13-The next few years their picks should be mid 20s. ------------------ Rockets fans wanted at hoopsboards.com Draft Chat, NBA Chat, Team Chat, and more!
Hey Clutch, i thought the offical deadline was this past weekend. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't someone on the NBC sports crew say that Sunday before game 2? ------------------
The official deadline was yesterday (2 weeks before the draft, wow it's getting close!!). Perhaps things have to go through the league office, which explains the delay for it? The underclassmen list wasn't posted till I think 2 days after the deadline. ------------------ Rockets fans wanted at hoopsboards.com Draft Chat, NBA Chat, Team Chat, and more! Did you say Detroit and "Grant..ed" in the same post...Hey everybody, we must be getting Grant Hill!!! Wahooo! just kidding everybody. ------------------ In the end there will be no judges...only witnesses to my greatness.
so, they gave us the Bird rights to resign Grant Hill instead of the pick? Cool. ------------------ Rockets fans wanted at hoopsboards.com Draft Chat, NBA Chat, Team Chat, and more!
No, this comes straight from the Rockets organization ... we asked just on behalf of clutchcity.net as media for any official word on the status of the Rockets receiving the Detroit pick, and was told as of right now there has been "no word from either Detroit or Orlando that we will receive their picks, and we have not conveyed any of our picks to Vancouver." We wanted to contact the org because we thought the deadline for those picks to be conveyed had come and gone -- if there has been no word on receiving them then it could be viewed as the Rockets will not receive either pick this season. But it struck me as odd because of the previous report from the radio show that Dennis Lindsey had stated Orlando had sent a letter stating they would not be sending the pick this season. ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET
Dennis Lindsay definitely said he got a letter from Orlando saying that the pick wasn't coming and that he hadn't heard from Detroit. ------------------
Clutch-if you get the chance, see if you can ask them if they've heard if they're not getting the picks, or when they'll expect to find out? I think a 2nd pick would be beneficial for Rudy and Co. ------------------ Rockets fans wanted at hoopsboards.com Draft Chat, NBA Chat, Team Chat, and more!
dafranchise..good i was thinking surely i can't be hearing things i knew he said it ------------------ Shane "Save Our Rockets" "Life without basketball in Houston........without an arena that is what it will be"
Well what can happen is that Orlando has decided to keep its pick!!! But, the Magic may be trying to use that pick to move up in the draft. However if any trade falls through, they can convey the pick to the Rockets at the Rockets discretion. So, essentially I don't think that Orlando wants that pick at all. They will have enough players in camp. The already had enough players as of last year. But, if any trade falls through, they can convey the pick. Before that deadline, they could essentially force the pick onto the Rockets. Now to releive themselves of the obligation to give a pick to Houston, then Houston could decide wether they wanted the pick or not!!!! Clear up any questions? ------------------
If we get the 13 and 14 the trade possibilities are endless. We could trade New Jersey the 13, 14, Cato, and Thomas for the #1. Then we could take Martin and Johnson at 1 and 9. Or we trade then the 9, 14, and Cato for the #1 and then trade Thomas and Drew to Boston for the 11 and 39. Then trade the 11, 13, 38, and 39 to Chicago for the 7, 24, and 34. Then trade the 24 and 7 to the Clippers for the 3. Then trade the 3, 34, future Second rounder to Vancouver for the 2. Then take Swift and trade him to Nets who took DerMarr at 9. Or we could just trade the Nets Cato, the 13 and 14 for the #1 take Martin and then take DerMarr at 9. Or we could just convey our 9 to Vancouver and not get the 13 and 14 this year. Or we could just take Eduardo Najera #1. Or we could trade the 9 to the Bulls for the 32,33,34 and trade those and the 38 to Dallas at 11 and take Moiso. Or we could just do it the easy way and take Johnson at 9. Ya, let's take Johnson at 9. ------------------
That all sounds great SRS, but Boston is not going to trade their 11 and 39 for KT and Drew unless the Celtics management is smoking crack. Same goes for many of the other trades you proposed. Dreamcasting are we?? ------------------ We need some meat in the post!
I forgot where I read it, but the Magic are high on a lot of players that could fall to the end of the lottery (of course they'd love Martin, too; who wouldn't?) Can they convey the #5 to us in exchange for whatever pick we're owed from them + Kenny or Drew or the Detroit pick? They might be looking for great role players from this year's draft so that they can use their future multiple picks in, say, next year's deeper draft to grab a potential franchise player. Because they must have about 10 #1 picks in five years. ------------------
I believe Orlando is only owed 1 more pick (via Phoenix) and owes a pick to us and Denver. They'd be crazy to give us #5 for the pick they owe us (which can be #29 if they want) and a role player. ------------------ Rockets fans wanted at hoopsboards.com Draft Chat, NBA Chat, Team Chat, and more!
Sorry to disappoint people, but the NETS will NOT give away their #1 pick. They WILL draft Kenyon Martin, especially since Jayson Williams and now Kerry Kittles will not be able to play next year due to injuries. Kittles have said that he may retire. If that happens, they will have even more salary cap money to bring in Free Agents. ------------------ www.takeoutmusic.com- the future of independent music
rrnyc: isn't it interesting then, that the Nets will probably choose Martin, coming off a major leg injury? ------------------
even if Kittles and Williams both retire, you won't get the cap room. You'll get 2 medical exceptions worth a total of about 8 million I believe (medical exceptions are for the league average salary). The Nets also are well over the cap. KVH starts BYC next year, and his salary jumps about 5 million, and then to begin with, last year your team had a payroll of over 50 million. The salary cap will be 35.5 million. No cap room for the Nets for the next few years. ------------------ Rockets fans wanted at hoopsboards.com Draft Chat, NBA Chat, Team Chat, and more!
As I understood Dennis Lindsay, he said that Orlando had said that they were not going to convey the pick at this time but he left open the possibility that it would come later. He said that he thought Orlando wanted to keep their trade options open as long as possible and that the Rockets were "setting up their draft as if they had every pick supposed to be conveyed to them." He said they would start with that mentality and work down rather than starting with the belief that they only had a single pick and being caught with their pants down...so to speak. ------------------ "No one gets out ALIVE!"
