I might be a little late to the party. But I was reading an article posted on the front page about Yao having surgery to remove a bone spur? Now, you guys know I NEVER fall for conspiracy theories and all that. But.... How the hell cannot be just a ploy to get Yao some much needed rest during the summer? The article says it will take 6-8 weeks to just REHABILIATE? For a bone spur? I must of missed something here. But I didn't see Yao hobbling up and down the floor except when he was exhausted. How the hell does this just comes out of the blue? To me, I think this might be just a little "vacation" that Team Yao has come up with to keep the Chinese government and the other Chinese team officials off his back this summer. We all with Yao had time off in the summer to just rest. He has said it himself that he wants to just relax for a few months and recoup the energy that he lost during the year. Could this be just that?
Oh great. Now all the Chinese officials who frequent this board will put an end to this charade. Way to ruin it for all of us.
I think you read too much into it. Yao is an honest guy and if the Rockets came to him and told him that he had an injury, how could he lie?
Oh, My Lord! Please delete this thread before sina reporters comes in and see it. The conspiracy theory would be all over the Chinese sports headline tomorrow.
Perhaps JVG the ultimate New Yorker played a roll in this. JVG: "Yao you're going to get an 'unidentified' bone spur removed this summer." Yao: "what talking about you?" JVG: "You are going to get some rest over the summer and not report to China" Yao: "YESHHHH Okay!"
Surely, you're not insulting Yao's English now are you? Now, why would you do that... why would you do that...
LOL Oops, haven't slept in 2 days and I'm kind of delerious sp* cause I've been studying for an Econ Midterm which is in an hour. Hope I dont make a stupid error like that on the test... thank god its not a writing or linguistics test. NO STUPID MATHEMATICAL ERRORS!
Count on this people, I am very sure some Chinese media is gonna pick this up and post all over Chinese news web sites like they did all the time now (coming here and translate the thread and make it sound like some "real inside scoop").
MEMO TO THE HONORABLE CHINESE PEOPLE: This thread is a fabrication. there is no truth to any of the comments made. Yao is the most patriotic player in the world and bone spurs are difficult to recover from. Grant Hill had a surgery which required one year of rehab because of bone spurs
Let's come up with a list of injuries for Yao to have at the end of each season so that he avoids going to China for a while and gets enough rest. 2006- Plantar fascitis 2007- Migraines 2008- Bone spur in the OTHER ankle 2009- Fainting spells
It depends what they mean by a "bone Spur". What commonly known as a bone spur could be on of three things: 1. Spurring of the bone at attachment of a tendon, or ligament. For example Plantar fascia at its attachment at the bottom of the heel is believed to cause bone spus of the heel (these bone spurts are benign and do not cause pian or discompfort, therefore are reaaly not necessary to remove) Or A tight achillles tendon constantly pulling at the back of the heel (close to the ankle) can cause spurring at its attachemnt behind the heel. 2. there could be spurring at or adjacent to a joint that can limit the motion of that joint (i.e. degenrative artheritis can cuase this) 3. there are artheritic diseases that can cause spurring, like Rhunmatoid artheritis, ankylosing spondylitis, or a whole series of other diseases. as for the conspiracy theory of scheduling surgery to give Yao some rest; well, unfortunately not. Usually just simple removing of bone spur does not require too much recovery since in most cases early return to activity is encouraged, to give better results.
