First: This is not intended to spark debate. This is just an unloaded question. After my wife and I were discussing about the Iraq prison photos, we started discussing about historically significant incidences that were unquestionably altered the moment a photo was released. I mean, if that photo never existed, the course of that event would have been dramitically different. (BTW, I'm not talking about Iraq because we are too close to that event to determine the outcome.) A semi recent example (even though it is a video) is the Rodney King video. People get beat by police all the time...unforunately. But that one video single handily changed the course of events that lead to the LA riots. Without that video, no riot. What are some better examples? I know there are some but I couldn't come up with any.
I thought of that but the photo (or video) themselves didn't alter the course of events. The event happened and America would have mourned just as hard without pictures. Right?
Perhaps not the most famous photo, but here you go... This ended the era of Airships, for all intent and purposes. A history changing event and the pictures went all over the world.
Nice. LOL. I imagine there would be many campaign examples. Sam Walls, the cross dresser from from Ft. Worth last month was pretty funny. But I wouldn't call that of historical significance.
What about the one of Harry S Truman holding up the newspaper showing that he had "lost" to Dewey in the 1948 Presidential Election? I know it is a famous photograph but I don't know if it fits the criteria you are looking for (maybe the media learned from that not to "count your chickens before they hatch" concerning the Presidential Elections).
One more.... I expect there are a zillion war pics And lets not even get started with the YoYao pics that changed the history of this BBS.
Pardon my ignorance. That last two war photos were on TV. But can somebody briefly explain the before and after environment that surround those. I was too young at the time to remember how these photo's contributed to history. There are a ton of war photos but they don't always have a direct cause/effect relationship w/ history.
i was thinking of that one too. The Tianaman Square photo is a great example too. These were photo's that took what otherwise might have been 'just another event' and brought peoples emotions to the issue.
