Looking at the effort this current Rocket team plays with and how they give it 100% every night as a team, they reminded me of a past Houston Rockets team.

A team that was not expected to make it very far, but they played their heart out every single night as one unit - one team.

Most people tend to forget about the first trip to the Finals, but this effort and attitude paved the way for bigger things to come in the future.

I love the direction of this team and the effort they put out every night win, lose or draw... Very similar to 1981.

If you don't learn from the past you are doomed to repeat it.

I recall that team quite well, 40-42 was the record.....but that team had Moses Malone......he was the league MVP....probably the best player in the NBA at the time.

    Ah good times.

I love anything old school to show these suckers the rockets aren't a upstart franchise, however, as hard as the 81 team played, it really helped having Moses. Minus moses, they're the worse team in the league as they displayed the next year.

    True they did have Moses...

But think of the league back then, there was no easy night...

Lakers, Spurs, Nuggets, Celtics, Sixers.. Even Sacremento was a dangerous team with Reggie T.

That team played with a lot of heart....

So if the Rockets don't learn from this, they are doomed to sneak into the playoffs, upset the defending champions and make it to the Finals? I'll take it.

Now this is how you make a thread about the players who paved the way for current Rockets. He didn't have to take side shots at any players or members on the board. Nor did he have to "type with pictures" but actually added something insightful.

Personally I am partial to the cocaine-laden 1986 team that was blackballed and systematically dismantled by David Stern. That team had John Lucas, Mitchell Wiggins, and Lewis Lloyd, all of whom served multi-year suspensions for coke. Not to mention a pissed off Akeem and a healthy Ralph Sampson. Good times.

What funny, posters, especially the newer ones think akeem would just turn the other cheek after a dirty play. They like to equate it as being a gentleman or just playing with honor, but as we've seen through history of the nba, there is a "punking" type of baptism that big men go through. If you don't stand up and fight back (david robinson and i won't mention the other), you will be ever labelled soft and guys will test you throughout your career. Dream came in kicking ass and played with a certain ferocity that you need as a big man. We were never called soft during dream or moses era because they were the toughest guys on the court. None needed enforcers or guys to get their back. They got the other guys back and made no apologies for it.

This is just before I became a Rockets fan, so I didn't follow Moses' career up close. From this tape, he looked like a monster. Was he as good as Hakeem?

was this team giving it 100% when they allowed Utah to whip their ass by giving up 133 points or when they scored a team history low of 66 points against the Miami Heat?

i don't see this kind of praise after Rockets' losses.

Wow.... Somebody is having a bad day....

Yeah they gave up a lot of points and they had a history career low...

Since you brought out the bad... Let's look at the good..

    1) This team was not suppose to anywhere near compettive this year and they are still fighting for playoff spot.

    2) This team has beaten the Lakers, Utah, Dallas, Cleveland and San Antonio... With a 6-5 Center.

    3) They on the playoff hunt with a so called Superstar on the team...

So as for as your question....

I can go out and give 100% to try and skate, but that doesn't mean i'm not going to fall and bust my @$$ every now and them...

If you notice, I only do the History threads after a win; because it's quiet and no one has nothing to *itch about....

After any loss, all of the YOF come out and want to blame and trade brooks.
