I cant wait "Superstar" http://www.lupefiasco.com/sneakpeek/index.php
As a lyricist, Lupe is years ahead of this era's rappers, maybe even centuries. As an artist he still needs work. or maybe just better resources. Kind of like Canibus or Ras Kass when they first dropped. Excellent writers, OK song makers. I really liked Food and Liquor and the mixtapes he dropped before it...
Wow...i need a a dictionary and thesaurus just to figure out what hes trying to say but he's one of my favorite rappers because his style is so different not your typical "Gangsta Rap". Lupe and Ye are reinventing hip hop
Yeah, sometimes the problem with the best lyricists in rap is that they forget they're making music, not just talking or reading poetry. Since they always speak of the inspired roots of hip-hop, then they need to remember that there was always an MC and a DJ. Production, tempo, and flow need just as much attention as writing. This is an issue that continues to plague some artists, like Canibus, Common, Q-tip, Mos, Lupe, and even my boy Talib. They get so focused on separating themselves from the lyrically vapid, production driven, pop hip-hop brand, that they forget they're supposed to be finding the right medium, not taking the other extreme.
Yeah, I've had he and Kanye's albums in my rotation quite a bit this past week. Imo, cham's only problem (and this is nitpicking really) is that a lot of his songs can start blending together and sounding the same (this is mostly due to his distinctive voice and flow, which is always consistent). He should consider perhaps being a bit more eclectic in his production choices and maybe letting some guests do his hooks. Other than that minor bit, Ultimate Victory is a great album.
His lyrics are amazing; he's easily the best lyricist in hip hop today. His lyrics are complex but that's what makes listening to him that much more rewarding than the average rapper. I have two of his cds in my player and I still thoroughly enjoy them.
