Patriots would have just said "**** you" and gone out and won another 3 Super Bowls. Fire?! We're not firing Bill Belichick! As @robbie380 said, players(you know, the guys who did the cheating) = nothing, management = banished
I'm not even that upset with Hinch leaving. He's not a bad coach though but I certainly got the feeling that he's not the type of coach that squeezes all he can out of a team...so here's to Joe Espada, hopefully he's better. As for Putila, here is an article about him... https://theathletic.com/1146049/201...of-keeping-the-astros-at-the-top-of-the-heap/ Hopefully, it works out but he has big shoes to fill.
I believe managers are largely replaceable and only as good as their talent, so I'm not concerned with Hinch. Liked him, but we could have kept on trucking with a new manager. Losing Luhnow f**king hurts. He was the king of the infrastructure that has made us what we are. Maybe we get lucky and he hires us a GM that can keeps us on the mountain, but it feels much more likely the run is coming to a close and we're gonna settle back into the pack. Crane has earned the benefit of the doubt for now, he hired and enpowered Luhnow, but this could be a disastrous choice.
When everyone who cheats gets punished equally i'll take it seriously, till then, couldn't care less.
I want to know if there were outside pressures that made Crane decide on Luhnow. Dumbest possible decision to can Luhnow.
I can't believe all our favorite star players on the Astros participated in this. They should be ashamed of themselves. I'm disappointed in all of them. How could they not know what they were doing was completely wrong and stand up for the integrity of the game? But, for someone like Hinch to sit idly by and watch it happen game after game is just flabbergasting. Hinch has no balls. I also guess we know what they were talking about as far as Carlos Beltran's leadership when he returned. He set a great example for everyone. Sigh.
MISTAKE !!!! The Patriots ketp Bilichek - firing Hinch is a major mistake....heck the Saints kept Payton.....you KEEP WINNERS - hell the major leagues have had pitchers cheating for years.....getting away with it is part of the game. An interim manager/GM would have been the better play here. It was fun while it lasted. DD
It sucks, but I think it had to be a consideration that the team basically was going to have no GM or Manager for a season, and nobody worth a damn is going to want a one season gig. The Astros were always going to have a negative image in the National Media as long as Luhnow stayed in charge. What sucks to me more than anything is these two were Houston royalty. Possibly future HOFers for their part in a dynasty. Instead they are gone, likely to never be part of the organization in any fashion (including being part of any future honors remembering our first title).
