    2?

I count three: Rudy, Mitt, and Freddie. All recovering pro-choicers.

I know he eventually will run, but has he even stated that he will yet? He says lots of stupid things, like his bit about "I don't want to be president, but I want to do some of the things that the president does."

Fred Thompson has started an exploration committee, so as long as money come his way he will run. Seeing that he is immediately third place if he does, money should not be a problem.

    He's running. That's a fact.

Yeah, Mitt's a recovering pro-choicer. I guess Thompson is too. Giuliani is still pro-choice. So of the top tier, you've got one pro-choicer, two "flip-floppers" and a 73 year old war/amnesty supporter running around 10%.

    The Republican Revolution is OVER.

It's funny because Republicans have won the last two elections primarily due to mobilizing the religious right on divisive hot button issues like abortion and gay marriage. And their top three candidates are either pro-choice or were until recently. The only actual contender that mirrors their views is absolutely hated by them. And the only other candidates that mirror their views (Brownback, Huckabee, Tancredo) are registering under 5%.

"You're either running or not running. I think the steps we're taking are pretty obvious."

Between immigration and Iraq the Republican party is truly stuck between a rock and a hard place. The debacle in Iraq is dooming their short term prospects and their base pissing Latinos off with their brown scare screeching is dooming their long term prospects.

The abortion angst among their top presidential contenders is just icing on the cake.

SInce I'm not for anti-abortion legislation, I think this is a good thing, no? Better to have candidates with more 'progressive' views being successful with both parties.

In the end...it's all moot anyway. Unless the Dems truly FU...it's all about who makes the concession speach when the new President accepts her election victory.

As someone who's staunchy pro-choice, I'm actually pretty uncomfortable about this; especially if any of them get elected and we lose a liberal Justice or two in the next 8 years. There's absolutely nothing worse than a President with something to prove.
