[Higher Education] USC will no longer use the word ‘field’ over racist connotations

My dad left school in fourth grade to pick cotton for his share cropping family. Were he alive today, I feel confident that this would be a “WTF” moment for him. BUT…..one person is a pretty small sample size.

 

You are not supposed to use "mentally ill" either. The acceptable term is overly stressed.

 

I'm shocked at how many humans care about this is as an issue to be fearful about.

When will you people care about real issues?

It's a stupid ass rule, and it's just virtue signaling to the highest degree.

You can think this is stupid and still care about real issues, it's stupid stuff like this that detracts from the real issues.

 

It seems like this stuff starts with a very small minority complaining about the "connotations", and their complaints grow loud enough that more and more people also start to feel uncomfortable when the word is said. You allow this, and a few years from now people will be "called out" for using the word "field" in public. It just becomes ridiculous.

 

You can’t say minority in California. It’s majority-challenged.

Do you understand that it isn't the people pointing out how ridiculous it is that are making it an issue? No one cares what the USC School of Social Work calls working in the community. People are laughing at them for thinking it is racist to call students doing work in a professional environment "field work". Some charlatan has given them a presentation (probably pocketing a nice bit of change for doing so) and now they feel the need to virtue signal how "inclusive" they are. No one fears this, they mock how sad and pathetic the people doing it are.

The professor was teaching MBA students about the Chinese conversational filler, "那个" ; it sounds like Nai gor.
"那个" means "that";
in Chinese conversations, pauses are often filled with "that" "that"

the snow flake black MBA students complained that

"There are over 10,000 characters in the Chinese written language and to use this phrase ... is hurtful and unacceptable to our USC Marshall community,”
