SBC seems to be cheaper, but is it slower? I want the fastest service available.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thx!

    Roadrunner is faster...

I use Earthlink cable modem, which is through Time Warner just like RoadRunner. Earthlink is cheaper and you get the first month free.

Go here and use my info to sign up so I can get the referral. :)

I had roadrunner and switched to Earthlink to get the 1st month free and lower my monthly payment from 44.95 to 41.95

    forgot to mention-

It is the exact same hardware as RoadRunner on the same cable line, so it is the exact same speed.

Plus you can dial-up when you are traveling with Earthlink.

I have had both. I first had Roadrunner when I moved into my new house but I hated TW's Digital Cable so after a year I switched to back to Dish Network. Well I didnt want to have multiple bills so I now have DSL through SBC and I am very happy with it. I have the 384 Kbps - 1.5 Mbps and I cannot see difference as far as performance with DSL and Roadrunner. What I really hated with Roadrunner was that the email sucked big time. Always down or really really really slow. With DSL, they also give you 250MB of space on Yahoo to store pics or files or whatever which I think is nice so that I always have access to my resume and pics of my kids and stuff. I would say go with DSL because of the above reasons and because it is cheaper. Hope this helps and good luck. Also, welcome to Houston.

You also get dial up with DSL. Not so with Roadrunner.

You get dial up if you pick Earthlink as your ISP on the cable modem.

It isn't much cheaper than cable and it is slower. Cable can hit 2Mbps, the DSL is limited to 1.5Mbps.

Earthlink has been great on email, plus you can check your email on their website when you are traveling.

SBC DSL is converting to SBC/Yahoo and the 'upgrade' ain't all that...

I'm switching to RR as soon as it's mandatory I change my account.

for broadband info that you can search for by zip code, go to http://www.dslreports.com - the industry standard for broadband websites!!!

Don't forget the year long contract that you are locked into with DSL. You can cancel your cable anytime you want, plus you don't have to pay all kinds of fees to get started for the hardware and everything.

I had SBCGlobal DSL for a year and it wasn't too bad. I like my cable modem more though, faster speeds and much faster to get installed than DSL.

If you can't get cable, then DSL has some good deals right now. I believe they are waving most of the fees and giving you a 50$ mastercard giftcard. Plus the first 3 months are only 19.95, then 49.95 after.

Thanks Sonny. I hooked you up......

The earthlink deal is pretty reasonable at $38.50/month (averaging out after the first free month). Hell Im paying $50.00 here in Austin for Roadrunner so that will be a big savings in the long run.

With standard cable (not digital) do I get to see Rocket games?

I signed up for cable modem service and digital phone service through AT&T Broadband. After they installed the digital phone equipment, I magically got free cable TV as well. :D

You should get 51 and 39 with basic cable, and I think Fox Sports also, if they ever end up broadcasting a game. You could actually get most of the games with a good antenna, since it seems like almost every game is on 51.

Thank goodness! I was worried that I would have to order digital in order to view games.

    Good to know!

sonny - can you sign-up for earthlink without being a time-warner cable subscriber? before i moved i had digital cable and roadrunner but now just directtv and a bunch of free aol disks.

i'm looking to get high-speed again but can't get dsl and don't need cable tv. with roadrunner you have to pay for atleast basic cable which sucks. earthlink sounds good if i can just get the cable-modem deal.

Good question, you may want to call them and ask. I know you can get the cable modem service without getting cable, it is just 10$ more a month. Go to the link above and call them and see what they can do for you.

    www.earthlink.com

I can't get SBC DSL in my place, nor can I get ATT Broadband, but I can get the Earthlink DSL.

This ****ing rocks. I'm sick and tired of working out of RM95's Girl's place.

Ive had both, and personally, I feel SWB DSL is far superior and slightly cheaper. Plus they usually give you fee equipment.

But don't take it from me I'm a TimeWarnerCable Junkie...
    Digital
    HDTV
    NBA Season Pass
    HBO
    RoadRunner

... and I've been emailing customer support every other day about DVR like they have in austin. :D
