Does anyone here know of a location where I could download a video about high school tolerance? I'm doing a presentation wednesday and my topic is "Every Student is Different." A video outlining the different types of high school students (jocks, goths, preps, etc..) would be a nice addition. Falcon's Talon -- I know that you teach. Would you happen to know where I could get something like this?
Sorry Fade. i can't think of anything offhand. You could speak to a school counselor and I'm sure they could steer you in the right direction.
Dear Mr. Vernon, We accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong. But we think you're crazy to make an essay telling you who we think we are. You see us as you want to see us. In the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But what we found out is that each one of us is a brain... and an athlete... and a basket case... a princess... and a criminal... Does that answer your question? Sincerely yours, the Breakfast Club. -- droxford
You can find some stuff from the 50s and 60s at http://www.archive.org Some of it is really funny . . .
please not the breakfast club. We had to watch the movie at school on a day about making fun of other students. I do not like the movie, it is so boring
I guess I'm getting old. This was a great movie in its day, but I can see how it could seem old, nowadays. Now, Fast Times, on the other hand...
From I've experienced High school tolerance = segregation. Groups can tolerate each other but you rarely see integration of different groups at lunch tables. Just a microcism of the bigger world.
That's what made the Breakfast Club so insightful. There were different students who normally would only spend time with their own groups, but had to spend time together in detention. This led to them learning more about themselves and each other. How can that be outdated? -- droxford
The Breakfast Club is timeless. It is one of my favorite movies and I can watch it anytime. My bro, who is 17, doesnt generally watch "older" movies and loved it. I also made him watch Stand By Me. How can you not like those two movies?
My wife taught High-School for the last 8 years. She would quote Breakfast Club sometimes as she taught. She would say "What was that ruckus?" The kids had no idea what she was talking about. However, my little brother's girlfreind, who just turned 21, claims Breakfast Club to be her favorite movie. (she likes all the old John Hughes films) So there is some hope. But I did try to get her and my bro to watch The Warriors and they just went home. I feel sorry for these kids. They have to watch crap like Amercian Pie. In the Gen X films, the outcasts were the heros. These days, the cool kids are the cool kids.
Alright, MEOWGI, I normally disagree (angrily) with you in just about every debate or discussion we've had, but this time I gotta say..... CAAAAN YOOOOOU DIG IIIIIIIIIIIT !!!!!! -- droxford
I'm not wild about the Breakfast Club. It's an all right movie, but it certainly isn't an earth-shattering, world changing, intensely personal lesson of tolerance. At least not to me. My sister OTOH loves that movie. Although I don't know if the morality of the film really resonates with her so much as she just thinks it's a really cool movie with a sweet soundtrack.
I dont think thats where John Hughes was going either. Its a teen flick....altho it was rated R and I had to sneak in to see it.
ok so i am the only person who does not like breakfast club. Alot of people like it in Europe. i just didn't. I also didn't like "the dead poet sociaty". apearantly you are not getting old Fatty FatBastard. I'm the strange one p.s. did you all like "sleepers"? i loved it.
Just wanted to say thanks for this link. I found an old video on that site called "Each Child is Different" which was absolutely perfect. The presentation went very well; we ended up getting 11.5/12.
