WILLIAMS Copyright 2007 Houston Chronicle DeSean Hales has made numerous plays for the Klein Oak Panthers, but none may top Thursday night's at Klein Memorial Stadium. Hales' did-you-see-that?, 72-yard touchdown with 5:38 remaining gave Klein Oak a 24-20 win over Klein Forest, capping off a game that featured 248 rushing yards and three touchdowns by Golden Eagles running back Dominic Wilkins. "I don't know how I did it," said Hales, who finished with 205 all-purpose yards, including 144 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. "I just kept running and somehow found enough room to get through." Seemingly pinned on the sideline, the back who has committed to the University of Texas evaded six defenders and discovered enough of a lane to navigate downfield. From there, Hales let his 4.3-in-the-40 speed do the rest to complete the improbable touchdown run and keep the Panthers undefeated at 7-0 overall and 4-0 in District 16-5A. Hales also had a 66-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. "That wasn't luck," said Klein Oak head coach David Smith. "DeSean is never down. ... He's hard to tackle. It was just a super play from a super kid." Wilkins was just as superb for the Golden Eagles (6-2, 2-2), running for over 200 yards for the second straight week. Wilkins had touchdown runs of 34, 82 and 29 yards as he punished the Panthers' defense with an equally impressive display of speed and power. Wilkins' third touchdown run had given Klein Forest a 20-17 lead going into the fourth quarter, and after Cameron Nwosu blocked a Trent Doerner 31-yard field goal attempt on the ensuing series, it appeared the Golden Eagles were on the road to a possible upset. However, the Golden Eagles were unable to answer Hales' go-ahead touchdown. "This felt like a playoff game," said Smith. "We told the kids on Tuesday that this game is a playoff game. They found out what it was going to be like, and they did a good job." The game was a see-saw affair that saw three lead changes and huge momentum swings. The Panthers grabbed both early in the second half when linebacker Chase Thomas picked off an errant Ford Lakin pass and sprinted 27 yards for a score that gave Klein Oak a 17-14 lead. Momentum was short-lived for the Panthers as the Golden Eagles marched 63 yards on 10 plays to retake the lead on Wilkins' 29-yard run on a fourth-and-11. "They have nothing to be down about," said Smith of Klein Forest. "That's a team that will go into the playoffs and cause a lot of damage." Wilkins left no doubt about who he and his teammates would like to see in the postseason. "I'd love to see them again," he said of Klein Oak. "We'd love a rematch." brandon.williams@chron.com
I went to KF to, class of 2000. I was at the game last night. That last td by Hales was incredible. He should've been hit for a loss.
Klein at least had (has?) hot girls, as I remember from summer classes. Westfield contributes absolutely nothing positive
