We'll all be setting our clocks back this weekend, and in Houston there's a growing sense that the Rockets also need to revise their philosophy on how many minutes Yao Ming plays.

The Rockets are 0-4 amid limiting Yao and his fragile feet to 6- and 7-minute spurts of playing time. Coach Rick Adelman tells Houston Chronicle columnist Richard Justice that the clock-watching dictated by the team's medical staff is getting in the way of playing basic basketball.

"You try to get him the minutes, and sometimes it's not a good situation," Adelman said. "Maybe he's got it going a little bit, and all of a sudden, you've got to take him out."

Said Yao: "It's up to the doctor. I feel normal. I feel I'm good. I feel I can run and jump."

The Rockets already have cut down or totally eliminated the time Yao previously spent jumping rope, practicing and running long distance.

You realize what you said... you are the writer... you are this writer... and you want to suck Dick Justices (something that rhymes with dock but is missing the l in clock).

It's no surprise but probably best to keep it to yourself.

I understand the reasoning of Yao not playing back to backs. If you work hard one day the next day you will be sore and more prone to injury I get that.

But the minute limit is just silly. You gain confidence in games not practice. I have seen players suffer season ending injury in the first 5 minutes of games. Injuries are part of the game and are going to happen. The whole reason Yao got the year off was to make sure he would be ready to play now.

If the doctors wont increase the minutes yao can get Rick has no choice but to decrease yao's minutes so he does not disrupt the flow of the game and disturb the rotation.

As Yao said, it's up to the doctor. This is a medical decision, and no amount of losing/winning or speculation by non-medical folks is going to affect it. Nor should it.

Why not just play him as backup and be done with it. Let the time from last year be the starting unit and have Yao come in with the 2nd Unit.

When he's able to play more then look into revisiting whether he should start or not etc.
