Oh, now he says he never said that-- but that even if he did say it, there was "no reason" to leave, since Bush wasn't elected but rather selected by five Supreme Court justices.

I just love people whose partisan passion outstrips their ability to rein in their use of hyperbole. I love it even more when their love of semantics trumps both of those tendencies.

I wish he didn't have to be such an ass. I enjoy some of his work, but the approach he takes to political causes isn't one of holding opposing viewpoints. The Baldwin approach is less "Hannity and Colmes" or "Crossfire" than it is Leninite/Trotskyite-- there is, judging by Baldwin's track record of statements-- only room for one of the two major political parties.

He might deny it, but his characterizations of the political right in this country amount to demagoguery and demonization. I mean, I said in 1990 (as a 16-yr old) that if Ann Richards was elected governor, I'd go to college out-of-state. That's the kind of simplistic, emotional, knee-jerk response you'd expect of a 16-yr old. When an adult uses a public forum to make similar remarks-- whether it's Baldwin or Michael Moore or Sandra Bernhard or whomever-- it's just plain sad. It's even more sad that people take them seriously.

I don't think he knows any Republicans, to judge by his comments about us and the mental caricature he's formed. I have several friends who don't share my political leanings; this has been a huge factor in my attempts to temper some of my remarks on these subjects.

It's very difficult to watch a movie (or SNL skit) with Baldwin in it without being reminded of what he thinks of people who share my political beliefs-- that we're such a stain on the country, such a menace to America, that any affirmation of our beliefs via the election process or public opinion would be such an insult that he'd have to leave the country he ostensibly loves so much.

His little brother Billy actually seems pretty reasonable. He was on the Factor a little while back.

Actually I thought that Baldwin had some good points. As I predicted since 9/11, Bush will drag out the militay repsonse to 9/11 for several reasons: 1) to gain electoral advantage 2) to feather the pockets of his defense spending contributors. It is the substitute for the cold war that the anti-peace dividend crowd were longing for.

If you believe that deliberate election fraud swung the 2000 presidential election in Florida, (I know many of you don't) wouldn't you think that it is just as much as threat to American democracy as 9/11, which is obviously a threat to American lives, but not necessarily our democracy.

Even if you are a traditional conservative, don't you think that a politician like Bush could try to use 9/11 for his political advantage.
I certainly see articles in the Chronicle saying that the Democrats are trying to use Bush and the Republicans' close ties to Enron to their advantage.

What's so wrong with what Baldwin said ? Is he not allowed to have an opinion? If Charlton Heston had said something with a republican view point would you guys be angry with him ?

I can't think of a polite way to respond to either of the previous two questions.

This is a ridiculous assertion. No, make that several ridiculous assertions.

Who exactly is the anit-peace crowd? Me? Afraid not. What kind of idiot is anti-peace?

The Democrats trying to tie Bush to Enron is plain as the nose on your face and it's not costing American lives. Your assertion of Bush's ulterior motive is costing American lives. That is an ugly accusation. Why am I not surprised....

No one is questioning Baldwin's right to have any opinion, but several people are questioning the stupidity of his ideas and the idiocy of anyone publishing it. I guess it sells.

When you criticize him you're questioning his opinion. All I'd really like to know is why his words carry so much weight with some of you ? He's just an actor not a world leader.

"A conservative is a man with two perfectly good legs who, however, has never learned how to walk forward. " FDR

    I got that one beat:

"If you're not a liberal when you're 18, you have no heart. If you're not a conservative when you're 40, you have no brain." Winston Churchill
