    no.

"From the viewpoint of a Jesuit priest I am, of course, and have always been an atheist.... I have repeatedly said that in my opinion the idea of a personal God is a childlike one. You may call me an agnostic, but I do not share the crusading spirit of the professional atheist whose fervor is mostly due to a painful act of liberation from the fetters of religious indoctrination received in youth. I prefer an attitude of humility corresponding to the weakness of our intellectual understanding of nature and of our being." - Einstein

NO worries -- your "left behind" reference made me laugh! good stuff! :D

    Read the whole thing here.

Be forewarned though, that you might need a shower afterwards. ;)

as an aside...have you ever read that Buddhists weren't real keen on the idea of idols originally, either?? that they were basically created and reluctantly introduced to reach those in Asia who were already worshipping idols and had a hard time accepting a religion without them?? i read something a while ago about this. but it makes sense to me, when i consider the buddhist viewpoint. it seems somewhat inconsistent to me to find idols in buddhist temples. please don't take that as criticism or something negative...just comes from what little understanding i have.

    :D

Buddhism is a philosophy that - unfortunately - got blended with culture and was twisted into a religion in parts of Asia, such as China. But I'd like to point out that the use of effigies doesn't always imply worship. My parents are both Buddhists, and have a small statuette of the Buddha in the living room (tradition more than anything else). They're quite clear he was no god, however.. and neither did he proclaim himself as such in his teachings

I would think buddhist idols are symbolic and/or decorative, just like crucifixes or statues, paintings and stain glass windows with images of Jesus, Mary and the Saints. If this pamphlet is meant to reinforce the Ten Commandments to practicing Christians, then they're probably entitled to discount other religions with this illustration, under the premise that Buddha is considered a false (non-Christian) prophet.

Of course, this type of thinking paints the ACLU, and separation of church and state, and the "war" on Christmas in a much more favorable light.

Here's a nice Wikipedia link, which seems to confirm a lot univac hal's recollections about Buddha's status in the eyes of practitioners, and states furthermore that Buddha isn't necessarily synonymous with Siddhartha:

But God came down to earth
    and paid our fine
    by dying on the Cross.

Jesus took our punishment on Himself.

Then He rose from the dead.

    That means that we don't
have to be punished by God.
We can live with Him forever!
It also shows us how much God loves us.

That was the Good News, I liked that part.

I have often asked Christian youth I meet to name the ten commandments off the top of their head- the average I have found is they get 3-4.

I then ask them to name ten different brands of beer- they usually get 11-12

It is a good way to encourage Christian young people to learn more about God since they are professing to want to.

(I know the author of that 'Hey Kids! Test Your Memory' personally- he is a Christian minister in California who works with Kirk Cameron- a ministry called Way of the Master- he preaches on street corners and has great love and compassion for people)

WARNING- this site is for Christians who wish to evangelize others. :)

Next you talk to him, tell him it would be nice if he actually did a little research and learned something about buddhist practices before publishing ignorant declarations. That would be a much better way of show love and respect besides rambling on street corners.

I find it funny how Now Worries finding a book at Moody Gardens Aquarium would lead to me emailing Kirk Cameron.
