Please forgive me if this is in the wrong forum.... I just wanted to pass the word and let everyone know that I am running for office this year (Houston City Council, District C). SERIOUSLY!! I’m a native Houstonian, public auditor and CPA, and I have been a resident of this district for 13 years. My background in accounting and my ties to the community make me the perfect man for this job. I will bring an aura of fiscal responsibility to city government. My prior community involvement has given me knowledge of programs that can help my district while the city rebounds from it's financial crisis. I have identified cost-effective programs that can be implemented rather quickly in the areas of crime prevention, education and community involvement. Most importantly, I will represent and pay attention to ALL of the constituents in my district 100% of the time (i.e. treating this position as a real, report every day type of JOB). Feel free to visit my web site to learn more about my campaign (www.SimsForCouncil.com). I can be contacted via e-mail (Malaki@SimsForCouncil.com), at the office (713-729-0122) or through this forum. All help would be highly appreciated, and I would really appreciate your vote if you stay in my district (check the district map on my site). Lastly, if elected…I will do everything in my power to ensure the Rockets, Yao and Stevie never leave our beloved city.
I hear the california governorship is up for grabs. Might as well try for that too while you're at it.
Icehouse, Why don't you send me an email and tell me some of your goals and inclinations. I am the VP of the North Houston Rotary, but I am in the same district as that area and could get you speaking engagements at some of the different clubs in your area. A family friend is running for City Council in District F (MJ Khan - No Relation) and I took him with me and got him speeches at 4 area clubs to over 300 people that are pretty active politically and socially around the community!
Would you support a change of city ordinances that would allow the new outdoor video screen at Toyota to play video and animation?
By checking out your website, I see that you are supported by several Democrat organizations, so I am assuming you are part of that party. (Please correct me if I'm wrong.) I also see that you support fiscally conservative approaches to government. Would you say you were socially liberal, yet fiscally conservative? Would you be able to highlight some of the cost saving measures you hope to bring to Houston as well as where you'd like to see Houston's money spent? By the way, I appreciate somebody on this board not just complaining about everything, but actually trying to go out there and make changes through a democratic process. This is the best way for real changes to be made, as well as getting your thoughts heard. BTW: I see that you work for a big 4. My wife works for PWC and one of my best friend's significant just interned at KPMG. Are you tax, audit, ect.?
I don't live in Houston, but man I love stuff like this about this site. Good luck, congrats on getting involved, and assuming you win allow me one of the last people to talk to you while you still own your soul... Seriously... best of luck.
It sounds like you're a good man for the job. Best of luck to you! Maybe you could introduce a citywide Rockets day or something. I don't live in Houston anymore, so I can't vote for you. But I wish you luck all the same. I'll see if any of my friends are in your district. I'll tell them to vote for you.
I don't mean to be an ass, but... it should be "father's nonprofit organization". Also, alot of your bio info sounds like the stuff that young people fill in their resumes because they have nothing else to put, and much of the wording is generally awkward. That having been said, damn, I feel like a loser. You're four years younger than me and running for city council. If I lived two blocks west of where I am, I'd vote for you. Have you researched the history of under 30 representitives? I seem to remember that there haven't been too many since the late 70's, but I could be wrong... Anyway, good luck.
Hmmm.... I wonder what kind of mud I can dig up on Icehouse from his previous posts? Seriously, man, good luck in doing whatever it is you political-types do!
Otto, you better correct your typos in that post before someone comes down on you in this thread for coming down on a nice guy like Icehouse.
