Had some pizza, went by MSG and even saw Sarah Palin in her caravan today. I'm here until Saturday morning. Any recommendations on stuff to do - particularly in the rain since it is supposed to rain a LOT tomorrow afternoon/evening and Friday.
"You don't get in HOUSTON... see... THIS is where it happens..." <- name that team fan, circa 1994...
See if Final Vinyl, on Bleecker Street in Greenwich Village, is still open. You MUST go to Manny's Music (used to be Manny's Guitars) - 156 W. 48th Street. Jimi Hendrix used to shop there back in the day. Go have some deli at Katz's - 201 E. Houston Street
visit ground zero visit the NY stock exchange See a play on Broadway (I recommend a comedy) Grab a newspaper and look at the Manhattan real estate section (for kicks) visit the ny metropolitan library Times Square
If you happen to like dessert and/or sweet stuff, I recommend Chikalicious Dessert Bar.. 203 E. 10th St. I just go to the walk-in and pickup thing on one side of the street (Dessert Club, actually 204 E. 10th St.) On the opposite side of the street is the fancy pants 3-course dessert sit-down thing
Pfft. Kahn's is better and here in Houston. Catch a Letterman show if they're filming. Definitely go by ground zero. ESPN Zone was fairly entertaining when I was there. Times Square is great these days, and should provide you with plenty of options, depending on what you're in the mood for. Greenwich is a fun place to swing to for a few drinks in the evening.
I went by Ground Zero and through Times Square today. I'm going to do some night photography there tonight. I'm going to visit some music stores on 48th Street tomorrow (Sam Ash, Manny's, etc) and I will probably try to get by Yankee Stadium. I'll probably go out tomorrow night to catch some bands in the Village. My band is playing here in mid October, so I'm going to scout out the venues and put up posters where I can.
My friend is up there now. Her and her boyfriend are trying out for 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire' you could do that I suppose.
jeff, most of the "venues" aren't really in the village anymore although it really depends on the kind of music. FWIW, peruse this site http://www.brooklynvegan.com/ and you'll get an idea were the real "cool" musicians hang . as far as the rain goes, don't let it stop you, it's a drag but if you've never been to coney island i would have to recommend it over almost anyplace else, it is quintessential new york and an awesome photo-op for a shutterbug such as yourself. if you don't wanna be outside then museums are always an option. the two shows i would recommend: Art and China's Revolution, at asia society and the louise bourgeois show at the guggenheim. i would second RMTex on katz's but it just ain't vegetarian friendly.
Tokyo Police Club play Thursday at Maxwell's in Hoboken Ratatat plays Saturday at Terminal 5 Takka Takka plays Saturday at Mercury Lounge. Weezer plays a secret show at Mercury Lounge tonight at 1AM. Definitely check out UCB Theatre for comedy shows. The shows are usually 5 bucks or free. There is no purchase of food or drink required like at other comedy shows. Tonight they have a free show at 11PM. http://newyork.ucbtheatre.com/schedule/ Past few weeks I got to see Zach Galiafinakis and Arj Barker for free on Mondays.
