More slings and arrows from the left; yeah, this is really mature. Although I'm giving props to Rep. Eric Turkington, D-Falmouth. It's all just f.y.i. Heroic Republicans can't win for losing -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Posted: August 16, 2003 1:00 a.m. Eastern © 2003 WorldNetDaily.com On July 8, the Boston Herald reported that Massachusetts' Republican Gov. Mitt Romney and his two sons, Josh and Craig, rescued a family of six (from New Jersey) after their boat sank in New Hampshire's Lake Winnipesaukee. Romney and his sons rescued the six family members and their dog from dangerous waters. The Herald also published the reactions to this gubernatorial saving of lives by the following people: Rep. Jay Kaufman, D-Lexington: "There are lots of people drowning in the Commonwealth right now who would certainly welcome a rescue." Rep. Paul Kujawski, D-Webster: "Other governors would have been condemned for leaving the state, but Romney seems to have privileges other governors haven't." Massachusetts Democratic Party spokeswoman Jane Lane: "Mitt Romney only chooses to run for office in Massachusetts. He doesn't vacation here." National Review magazine described these three reactions from Massachusetts Democrats as "Mindless, heartless partisanship" and added the following: "We can't help comparing Romney, who saves people from drowning, and another big Massachusetts pol, who ... well, you know." The Herald did not report any commendation or other comment on the Romney's saving of lives from the usually outspoken U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy. Gov. Romney denied any heroism saying, "It's something anyone who lives on a lake knows: if someone's in trouble, of course you go out and give 'em a hand." The Herald did quote one Democrat, as a very welcome contrast to the three others. Rep. Eric Turkington, D-Falmouth, said, "When somebody's drowning, we're not Democrats or Republicans. I'm impressed that we have a governor who can do that sort of thing." http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=34133
Seems the real problem is this American 2-party partisanship. No one wins--left, right or center--when we only view the world through the liberal/conservative political lense. This Us-vs-Them crap hurts the country.
when you don't give your opposition credit for things like this, you show yourself to be petty shame on them for complaining. I don't care who the politician is, it is their politics which I take issue with, not their personal attributes or activities, and I take issue with almost all of them. I don't care if a guy likes to wear women's underwear and get spanked, as long as he votes right, as long as his policies are correct. If this guy did something as governor that is objectionable, I want to hear about it. The Demoncrats hurt themselves on this one.
I hate this kind of crap, and have always said so. I think, if memory serves, the first thread I ever started while drunk was called " For The Love Of God Let's Do Away With The Two Party System!"...I have not been drunk ever since, but my disatisfaction with the adverserial system we have bred, and the corresponding partisanship above morality, practicality, etc. has continued. Another thing it does is that it tends to create an insular attitude in Americans; if the Dems and the Reps agree on something, it MUST be right kind of thinking...This article would seem to be, on the face of it, another example of that kind of behaviour. That said, I would like to see if the linear relationship between the actions themselves and the Democratic response was as unencumbered with rhetoric from the other side as the article makes it appear...Was this action halied as yet another example of the courage the Republicans have shown throughout this past few years or some such trash? If not, bad on you, D-Reps involved.
For what it is worth I'm in favor of Republicans saving drowning people. I'm also in favor of them being praised for it by Democrats.. I'm in favor of praising war heros like Max Mclelland for their heroic actions in defense of this country even if they are Democrats. Similarly I'm against attacking John McCain as being psychologically unfit for political office due to his POW travails, even if the people who were responsible were Bush supporters or fellow Republicans.
Hear Hear. It is about time for us to start looking for policy that works rather than seeing things purely fas partisan Democrats Vs. Republicans. That goes for virtually every issue.
