Anyone ever had a hernia? I got sick and started coughing really bad this weekend and felt something odd in my abdomen region. Now, my left testicle has a dull pain randomly. I've scheduled a doctors appointment for Friday but want to know if anyone here has ever had one. Is surgery really the only option?
I used to have a hernia. I then had it repaired with surgery. If it's a groin hernia, you should be able to tell by checking for bumps. If you cough or push air down you lungs, you should be able to feel a change in height in the skin area around your penis. Better to consult a doctor on the matter though. Of all the things that can happen down there, a hernia is probably one of the better ones.
I had bilateral hernia surgery in June. For weeks before I had pain and a bulge in my abdomen, but what really got me is when I was lying down and stood up, I could feel my insides shifting. THAT was painful. A sharp stabbing pain. Surgery was my only option. The doctor did the laproscopic option to insert the mesh on both sides. Tiny little scar, quick recovery.
I once thought I had a hernia, because one of my nards was experiencing some pain and discomfort that just sorta... felt like a hernia, I guess. I went to the doctor expecting the worst, and he handled my junk thoroughly. The verdict? No hernia!! He told me I probably just sat on my scrotum. I think I would have remembered that, but my nut trouble went away on its own, so huzzah. Moral of the story? Maybe you don't have a hernia! So don't kill yourself just yet. Also, the doc told me those weird markings on my dick were vitiligo. So now you and I both know.
In 2011, I experienced similar symptoms, thinking it was a hernia. It turned out to be varicoceles, which went away after a round of antibiotics.
